About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Member of Technical Staff (MTS) Firmware Engineer to join our expanding engineering team. In this role, you will design, develop, validate, and maintain embedded firmware solutions for next-generation high-speed networking, optical interconnect, and semiconductor products.
You will work closely with Digital Design, Verification, and Systems teams to enable product bring-up, hardware validation, feature development, and performance optimization across complex hardware platforms.
This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies including high-speed SerDes, optical engines, silicon photonics, and Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) systems.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, implement, debug, and maintain embedded firmware for complex hardware platforms.
• Develop firmware for embedded processors, microcontrollers, and management controllers integrated within advanced ASIC and optical systems.
• Create low-level device drivers and hardware abstraction layers (HAL).
• Implement control, monitoring, telemetry, diagnostics, and configuration firmware.
• Support board bring-up, silicon validation, and system integration activities.
• Develop interfaces for standards-based management protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, MDIO ... etc
• Collaborate with Digital Design and Verification teams to define firmware-hardware interfaces.
• Participate in architecture reviews and contribute to firmware requirements and specifications.
• Analyze system performance and optimize firmware for latency, throughput, memory utilization, and power efficiency.
• Create automated validation and regression environments for firmware testing.
• Debug hardware/software interactions using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
• Document firmware architecture, APIs, design specifications, and test procedures.
• Support customer in resolving complex technical issues.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 10+ years of firmware or embedded software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming.
• Experience with embedded real-time systems and firmware architecture.
• Solid understanding of computer architecture, microcontrollers, and embedded processors.
• Experience working with communication protocols such as: I2C / SPI / UART / MDIO
• Experience using source control systems (Git).
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with networking, data center, telecom, or semiconductor products.
• Knowledge of high-speed interfaces such as: Ethernet / UCIe
• Experience developing firmware for ASICs, FPGAs, or custom silicon.
• Familiarity with silicon bring-up and post-silicon validation.
• Understanding of optical networking and silicon photonics systems.
• Experience with CMIS management interfaces.
• Familiarity with Linux device drivers and embedded Linux environments.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Tcl.
• Exposure to secure boot, firmware update mechanisms, and reliability features.
• Understanding of firmware verification and automation methodologies.
