Description
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is a private fusion energy company seeking a Control Software Engineer to design, implement, and verify software and controls for advanced R&D equipment and complex machinery. As a hands-on technical contributor, you will develop mission-critical real-time control systems, collect functional requirements, and integrate software across testbeds and production environments. What You'll Do • Design and implement control software for multiple platforms including PLCs and real-time Linux systems • Develop operator interfaces and workflows for industrial and scientific equipment • Collect functional requirements from stakeholders and translate them into software solutions • Integrate control software into software testbeds, hardware testbeds, and production tools • Improve software tooling and processes to increase developer velocity across the organization What You Need • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related engineering field • 5+ years of experience with industrial control systems and/or embedded control systems • 5+ years of experience producing production-quality control software • Proficiency with Python • Proficiency with at least one real-time control language (C++, SCL/ST, Rust, or equivalent) • Experience with modern software development lifecycle practices (CI/CD, Git version control, unit testing, integration testing) • Experience with industrial protocols (e.g. EtherCAT, Profinet, Modbus) • Familiarity with Linux Nice to Have • Experience developing Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) for industrial or scientific equipment • Familiarity with industrial control platforms (e.g. Beckhoff TwinCAT) • General networking knowledge (IP/UDP) • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call
