$2,500 Sign-On Bonus
Pay: $16.00-22.00 per hour, based on experience and certifications
Blue Ridge Community Action is seeking someone with hands-on residential construction, remodeling, maintenance, HVAC, or building-trades experience to join our Weatherization team as a Weatherization Energy Auditor.
This is a field-based position that involves inspecting homes, performing diagnostic testing, identifying needed weatherization improvements, and preparing work orders. This is not a management or supervisory position. Training on Weatherization Assistance Program requirements and testing equipment will be provided.
Primary Responsibilities
• Schedule and conduct residential home energy audits and inspections.
• Inspect homes for energy-efficiency, construction, health, and safety concerns.
• Perform blower door testing, combustion appliance safety testing, duct inspections, and air-sealing reviews.
• Identify needed repairs and weatherization improvements.
• Prepare clear, home-specific work orders based on inspection findings.
• Complete required inspection, testing, and project documentation.
• Enter client, housing, and audit information into required databases.
• Explain weatherization services and safety requirements to clients.
• Coordinate with contractors and Weatherization staff regarding work that needs to be completed.
• Review completed work to help ensure it meets program requirements.
• Maintain organized client, inspection, and work-order records.
• Track materials used for weatherization projects.
• Maintain the cleanliness and basic upkeep of an assigned agency vehicle.
• Attend required training and maintain applicable certifications.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Hands-on experience in residential construction, remodeling, home repair, maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, weatherization, or another building trade required.
• Associate degree in Construction Management, Building Trades, or a related field preferred but not required.
• Energy-auditing experience helpful but not required.
Skills and Abilities
• Practical knowledge of residential construction and building systems.
• Ability to identify repair, energy-efficiency, and safety concerns in a home.
• Ability to learn and operate diagnostic testing equipment.
• Basic computer skills and ability to enter information into databases.
• Ability to complete detailed and accurate documentation.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a daily field schedule.
• Ability to communicate professionally with clients, contractors, and coworkers.
• Dependable, organized, and willing to learn.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to climb ladders and enter attics, crawl spaces, and other confined areas.
• Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Other Requirements
• Must be able to travel to homes and job sites in multiple locations.
• Base location is Burke County, North Carolina.
• A company vehicle may be provided for approved work-related travel.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Must successfully complete a criminal background check, DMV review, and substance-abuse screening.
• Must be able to work respectfully with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
