A specialist insurance business is hiring a Vice President to launch and lead a new Risk Intelligence function. The company is a focused underwriting unit inside a larger global insurance platform. It writes coverage for freight brokers and third-party logistics providers, mostly medium and large operators, across the US and Canada. The team is small, highly specialized, and built around proprietary technology. It manages a sizable book of premium across several hundred insured clients. This is a founding role. You will not inherit a department. You will build one. About the role This is an operational, field-facing role, not a back-office policy job. You will: Work directly with insured clients to review how they actually run their business Assess their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and confirm they are clearly written, properly put in place, and followed in practice Find the gaps between what should happen and what does happen, then drive the fixes Tie that work to measurable results: fewer losses, fewer claims, stronger client performance Advise the underwriting team using what you learn in the field Build the Risk Intelligence department over time, with your first hire expected within about a year Key responsibilities Lead the Risk Intelligence function from the ground up Design repeatable processes, SOP audit frameworks, and an enterprise risk management (ERM) approach the company can scale Conduct client reviews and operational assessments, mostly by video call, some on site Check how well each insured vets and onboards motor carriers (safety, financial standing, licensing, insurance) and where their compliance checklists break down Give clients clear, practical recommendations to tighten safety and compliance Partner with underwriting to sharpen risk selection, and with claims to spot loss trends and prevent repeat losses Act as a trusted advisor who raises the operational maturity of the clients you serve Help define how the department and team grow over the next several years Requirements Essential Strong analytical ability and a data-driven approach to decision-making 15-plus years of hands-on experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain operations at the enterprise risk level Ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously and maintain clear priorities without constant escalation Deep working knowledge of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) design and rollout, motor carrier vetting and onboarding, risk management and loss control, and contractual liability and exposure management Full professional English proficiency Proven experience building process frameworks and risk structures, not only operating within existing ones Based in the United States with work authorization, and able to travel 15 to 20 percent for client visits and industry conferences Confidence working directly with clients and executives, with the credibility to influence change Preferred Ability to support and advise an underwriting team with operational and risk insight Direct experience managing real-world risk events, such as: Cargo theft and security exposures Operational breakdowns and execution failures Regulatory fines and penalties Complex contractual disputes Transportation Management System (TMS) failures Margin compression Large-loss events and high-value verdicts Crisis response and rapid scaling Working knowledge of logistics management systems, carrier databases, and standard data tools (Excel or similar), plus Microsoft Outlook and Word Certifications in logistics, transportation, or risk management Benefits Base salary: $240,000 to $280,000 per year Additional annual bonus 22 days of paid leave 401(k) with retirement plan support Healthcare coverage Paid parental leave Wellness stipend Full benefits package Location and Travel Open to location: onsite, hybrid, or fully remote for a candidate with the discipline to work independ
