SUMMARY: The Ultrasound Technician is responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The Ultrasound Technician maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment.
• Adhere to quality control requirements on all patients testing to ensure accuracy.
• Ability to evaluate sonograms in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic and vascular information.
• Ability to integrate diagnostic and vascular sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt sonographic examination as necessary.
• Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic and vascular sonographic information in each examination performed.
• Ability to evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic and vascular information to the attending physician.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patient’s needs.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and health care teams.
• Ability to follow established department procedures.
• Ability to transmit via electronic methods sonographic examinations and tests to teleradiologists for professional interpretation.
• Ability to document in the EMR, all actions taken regarding patient testing procedures performed.
• Ability to maintain patient confidential and patient privacy standards at all times.
• Participate in various committees, meetings, in-service training as required.
• Participate actively in quality improvement programs.
• Must maintain ultrasound equipment and work area and maintain adequate supplies.
• Accurately and promptly implements provider’s orders.
• Maintains a professional approach with confidential hospital and patient information and ensures safe patient environment.
• Maintain certifications and continuing education requirements needed to perform job.
• Miscellaneous duties as assigned requested or required.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledgeable of the standards of quality for the performance of ultrasound procedures and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography, and maintaining records of patient test results.
• Knowledgeable of the operation of sonographic equipment.
• Knowledgeable about state and federal regulations of sonography.
• Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
• Maintain discretion and confidentiality in communications.
• Knowledgeable about policies and procedures regarding reporting and release of protected health information (PHI).
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Graduate of a formal diagnostic Sonography Program
• ARDMS Certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
• 1-3 years experience, preferred
LANGUAGE/READING SKILLS:
• Communicate verbally and in writing in English. Legible hand writing is required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
• Basic statistical concepts.
• Geometry, Algebra, Increment Conversions, Formulas and Fractions
REASONING ABILITY: Responds to commonly occurring problems/situations for which standards, procedures and precedents exist.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, ascend and descend stairs, possess ability to handle, finger or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds from the floor to waist. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to clearly focus vision.
