Our Imaging team plays a critical role in delivering accurate diagnostic information that supports early detection, treatment planning, and ongoing patient care. Position Overview The Ultrasound Technologist I is responsible for operating ultrasound and non-invasive vascular imaging equipment to perform diagnostic examinations. This role supports high-quality patient care by performing imaging procedures, maintaining quality standards, assisting with breast imaging services, and ensuring accurate documentation and communication across the care team. The Ultrasound Technologist I models behaviors consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of West Cancer Center. Key Responsibilities Perform ultrasound examinations in accordance with Radiology and Breast Center ultrasound procedure protocols Provide ongoing patient assessment through observation and review of patient records, reporting findings accurately and promptly Assist in the development of others through guidance and teaching Promote professional practice among radiology and breast services team members Participate in quality monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure quality standards are maintained Assist with breast biopsy ultrasound procedures Complete all required data entry in Ikonopedia Complete chart preparation prior to scheduled patient appointments Prepare breast conference cases for radiologist review Ensure imaging equipment is operating optimally by performing quality control testing and adjustments as needed Obtain required continuing education and certifications necessary to maintain ultrasound technologist requirements Maintain ACR accreditation requirements every three years Coordinate patient care and department communications among radiology and breast services team members Participate in departmental committees, meetings, and group activities as assigned Maintain inventory of supplies, medications, and expendable materials Demonstrate knowledge and competent operation of the McKesson PACS system within the scope of the position Qualifications Education & Experience Required: Completion of one of the educational prerequisites outlined in the ARDMS examination guidelines Zero (0) to one (1) year of Ultrasound Technologist experience Preferred: Graduate of a CAAHEP or CMA-approved ultrasound or vascular technology education program Credential/Licensure Required: Certification and registration as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer through ARDMS in Breast Must obtain ARDMS certification and registration within twelve (12) months of hire Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association Preferred: Certification and registration as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Skill in performing ultrasound examinations in designated specialty areas Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, including patient records and technical manuals Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, families, and coworkers Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment Ability to organize multiple tasks and maintain effective workflow management Work Environment & Physical Demands Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact Exposure to patient body fluids as well as hazardous or poisonous materials Ability to react quickly in emergency situations Medium work requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds frequently Frequent standing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion Must have good balance, coordination, and hand-eye coordination Require
