AdvancedMD
AdvancedMD is a unified cloud suite of medical office software hosted on Amazon Web Services/AWS including practice management, electronic health records, and patient engagement, and offers managed medical billing services for independent practices. AdvancedMD serves an expansive national footprint of 65,000 practitioners across 14,000 practices and 900 independent medical billing companies. 8.8M insurance claims are processed every month on the AdvancedMD billing platform!
Role Summary
Are you a design-driven craftsperson who takes pride in turning clinical complexity and patient chaos into precise, quiet, genuinely useful experiences? AdvancedMD is entering a defining chapter. We are embedding AI across every layer of the clinical and patient journey — from intelligent documentation and ambient charting to AI-powered intake, scheduling automation, and front-office optimization. As a UI/UX Product Designer will own the design function that makes both surfaces real — shaping how AI capabilities reach the clinicians and patients who depend on them, across our EHR/PM platform and patient-facing experience alike.
This is a builder's role. The UI/UX Product Designer will own design across two interconnected surfaces that most companies split into two separate jobs. You will bring clinical workflow expertise and patient engagement sensibility into a single, unified design practice — with the mandate, autonomy, and support to do it well. You will partner closely with the VP of Product, engineering, and clinical subject matter experts to translate AdvancedMD's AI strategy into experiences that reduce cognitive load, build trust, and ship to real users. If you are energized by defining problems before solving them, using AI as a genuine accelerator in your craft, and holding a high bar for design quality from concept to production, we'd love to meet you!
Essential Job Duties
Clinical Workflow & EHR Design (Primary Focus):
Serve as the design owner for AI-assisted charting surfaces — ambient documentation, AI-generated note drafts, and smart template suggestions — that reduce cognitive load for clinicians without disrupting their workflow
Own UX for specialty-specific workflows across AdvancedMD's 30+ clinical specialties, balancing customization with platform coherence
Identify and eliminate friction in billing, coding, and prior authorization flows through research-driven redesign
Collaborate with clinical SMEs to ensure designs reflect real-world practice patterns, not idealized workflows
Patient Experience & Intake Design:
Design end-to-end patient-facing journeys: digital intake forms, insurance verification, self-scheduling, kiosk check-in, two-way messaging, and post-visit follow-up
Build AI-native UX patterns for no-show prediction nudges, automated recall flows, and personalized patient communications
Ensure patient-facing surfaces are accessible, mobile-optimized, and usable across varying levels of digital literacy
Benchmark AdvancedMD's native intake and engagement capabilities against market-leading point solutions and identify design gaps worth closing
Design Practice & Craft:
Own the use of AI tools — Figma AI, Claude, generative variant tools — as a genuine accelerator in your design process, not a novelty
Build and maintain scalable design system components that serve both clinical and patient-facing surfaces
Prototype at the fidelity the question demands — lo-fi to validate direction, hi-fi to validate execution
Conduct or facilitate formative research (interviews, usability tests, contextual inquiry) to ground design decisions in real user behavior
Partner closely with engineering during implementation, reviewing builds and flagging where quality has diverged from spec
What You'll Need to Get the Job Done :
3–6 years of product desi
