Role Overview
This role involves delivering lectures, practical sessions, and clinical supervision in paediatric nursing, while shaping course content to meet evolving healthcare demands. The position is central to producing competent nursing graduates who uphold the standards of the Nursing Council of Kenya and thrive in real-world hospital settings. Daily work includes curriculum development, hands-on teaching, mentoring students, and contributing to research that advances the field.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and update course materials and programmes of study across multiple levels, including entirely new courses when needed.
• Deliver high-quality lectures and practical demonstrations that engage students and deepen their clinical knowledge.
• Supervise students during clinical practice in hospitals or other healthcare facilities, ensuring they gain relevant, hands-on experience.
• Regularly review and refresh course content and teaching materials to reflect current best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with academic colleagues on curriculum changes, new course development, and joint research initiatives.
• Carry out independent and collaborative research, write grant proposals, and seek consultancy opportunities to expand departmental impact.
• Present research findings at national or international conferences and through other scholarly dissemination channels.
• Provide mentorship and career guidance to both students and junior staff, fostering professional growth and academic excellence.
• Ensure all teaching, assessment, and clinical supervision activities comply with Nursing Council of Kenya standards and university policies.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department or as detailed in the full job description.
Requirements & Qualifications
• Currently registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent doctoral degree, with evidence of progress toward completion.
• Master of Science in Nursing (Paediatrics) from an accredited university.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Paediatrics) or a related degree from a recognised institution.
• Minimum of three years of post-qualification work experience in nursing, academia, or a clinical setting.
• Valid practising licence from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
• Demonstrated potential for university teaching, including the ability to deliver lectures, design curricula, and supervise research.
• Evidence of research activity, such as publications, conference presentations, or ongoing projects.
