Role Overview This position focuses on delivering high-quality mechanical engineering education while advancing the department’s research profile. Day to day, you will prepare and present lectures, practical sessions, and coursework across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, particularly in mechatronics, automotive, maintenance, or materials engineering. Your work directly shapes the next generation of engineers and strengthens the institution’s standing through funded research and industry collaborations. Key Responsibilities • Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions in assigned mechanical engineering subjects, adapting content for different course levels. • Develop new programmes of study and update existing curricula to reflect current engineering practices and research developments. • Conduct independent and collaborative research, producing publications for peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at national and international conferences. • Prepare and submit grant proposals to secure external funding for research projects and departmental initiatives. • Participate in curriculum review committees and contribute to the design of assessment methods and programme improvements. • Provide academic mentorship and career advice to students, as well as guidance to junior teaching staff. • Engage in consultancy work with industry partners, applying technical expertise to real-world engineering challenges. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or line manager to support the smooth operation of the academic unit. Requirements & Qualifications • Must be registered for a PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in Mechanical Engineering and demonstrate clear progress toward completion. • A Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, with specialisation in Mechatronics and Automation Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Maintenance and Reliability Engineering, or Materials Engineering, from an accredited university. • Minimum three (3) years of post-qualification professional work experience in an academic or closely related engineering environment. • Proven experience teaching at university level, including designing and delivering lectures, practical sessions, and student assessments. • Demonstrated research output, such as published papers, conference presentations, or active research projects. • Registration (or eligibility for registration) with a relevant professional engineering body as required by national or institutional regulations.
