Hours: Full time Applications: Interviews: Tue 15 Aug - Thu 17 aug 2023 Closing date: 5pm, Wednesday 9 August If you’re someone who enjoys live events but doesn’t want to be in spotlight, or you like getting your hands dirty and fixing stuff, the Tech Theatre placement could be for you. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to build your skills and ignite your passion for the performing arts. Provided by Future Formed in partnership with: Jacksons Lane Arts Centre, Theatre Peckham, Arcola Theatre, Camden People’s Theatre, The Pleasance, Little Angel Theatre and (of course) Soho Theatre. You’ll learn how theatre lighting works including: • Rigging lights for live shows • How to operate a sound and lighting desk • Basics of looking after a professional working stage Successful candidates will receive 1 week free training from a top professional Theatre Technician at Camden People’s Theatre. They will then be paid to continue their training in a professional venue for a week, putting their learning into practise on live productions. The training on offer includes: • 1 week training in a working theatre from a highly experienced professional theatre technician • 1 weeks paid placement (London living wage) at a professional venue • Opportunities to network with potential employers • Tickets to live performances outside the borough By the end of your training you will • Feel more confident working with technical equipment for theatre and music events • Have developed basic skills in the area you are teaching • Have access to a range of organisations that need casual theatre technician staff on a regular basis (there is currently a shortage of technicians in the live events industry) • Have the option to develop your tech skills further • Have the option to work with an industry mentor to allow further access to jobs and opportunities ‘Having completed the Future Technicians course with Future Formed, I now feel more confident. The world feels as though it’s gotten bigger since completing the course.’ Natalie, Soho Theatre Tech Placement Eligibility Criteria To apply you must be aged 18 or over and be living, studying or working in Waltham Forest We particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in the creative sector. These include people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people, LGBTQI+ people and women. Candidates will be asked to demonstrate that they are: • Reliable and punctual • Interest in performing arts • Open and willing to learn new skills and have fun • Available from Monday 4 September to Friday 8 September, 10am to 4pm everyday Application deadline Wed 9 Aug, 5pm.
