Description
The Lion’s Den Tea is seeking a temporary barista contractor to support our botanical tea house in East Austin.
We specialize in ceremonial cacao, tea, and handcrafted botanical drinks. Our shop is a sober, welcoming third space where guests can slow down, gather, work, read, and connect.
We’re looking for someone reliable, detail-oriented, warm with guests, and comfortable working independently after orientation.
Responsibilities
• Prepare tea, cacao, and botanical beverages using written recipes
• Provide warm, professional customer service
• Keep the shop clean, organized, and guest-ready
• Follow food safety standards
• Open and/or close the shop independently after orientation
• Support a calm, welcoming atmosphere
Ideal Candidate
• Reliable and punctual
• Comfortable working independently
• Strong attention to detail
• Able to follow recipes and procedures carefully
• Customer service experience preferred
• Barista, tea, coffee, or food service experience preferred but not required
• Must obtain and maintain required food handler certification
Orientation & Compensation Selected contractors will complete paid orientation before accepting solo service blocks.
Orientation compensation: $160 total for up to 16 scheduled orientation hours
Before accepting solo service blocks, contractors must complete orientation, demonstrate drink proficiency, complete a written recipe/procedure check, and successfully complete an independent closing service block.
Solo service blocks are offered with the total fee stated upfront.
• Standard 4-hour service block: $56 total
• Two consecutive 4-hour blocks: $112 total
• Shorter or longer blocks may be offered based on coverage needs
• Contractors keep 100% of tips earned during accepted service blocks
Some consecutive service blocks may include a paid 10-minute transition overlap for handoff and smooth coverage.
Scheduling Contractors may accept or decline available service blocks. Current coverage generally includes 4-hour blocks, with the option to accept two consecutive blocks when available.
