Job Description: An opportunity currently exists for a Telecom Lifecycle Engineer within AltaLink’s Lifecycle Maintenance Engineering (LME) Team. The Lifecycle Maintenance Engineering team’s goal is to direct the optimization and balance of cost, risk and performance for AltaLink’s power system assets and systems throughout their lifecycle. This is done by assessing and trending risk, capital/operating expenditures and system performance; by applying lifecycle models and methodologies; and by creating a long-term view of maintenance activities and corresponding investment requirements. By understanding the cost, risk and performance implications of asset management decisions, AltaLink ensures that the needs of the power system are balanced with the needs of end users. The Telecom Lifecycle Engineer will be a key member of the Lifecycle Maintenance Engineering team responsible for a wide range of maintenance work. The successful candidate will work with internal and external staff to perform analysis and performance trending of Telecom devices and present maintenance solutions including updated maintenance practices to immediate replacement of impacted equipment. This position will appeal to self-driven individuals who are keen to understand equipment failure and work with like-minded individuals to solve performance issues. This position will report to the Manager, Lifecyle Maintenance Engineering. Responsibilities: Conduct life cycle assessments for telecom equipment, including supporting the development of purchasing specifications, improving equipment maintenance standards, developing troubleshooting procedures, completing life extension alternative assessments, creating sparing plans and optimizing replacement selection criteria. Lead GTA business case development and answer regulatory requests. Apply the Condition Monitoring and Assessment (CMA) process for asset condition trending and analysis focusing on telecom equipment. Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for telecom equipment to enhance the longevity and reliability while optimizing the effectiveness and efficiency of offline maintenance. Monitor in-service devices for widespread issues related to hardware and firmware. Investigate and resolve systemic telecom equipment defects and deficiencies. Perform end of life expectancy assessments and equipment condition assessments. Provide innovative solutions
