Technicians for Science and Design Technology, Food and Arts Technician (2 posts available) Location : Smithdon High School, Hunstanton Smithdon High School is seeking to appoint two passionate and driven Learning Technicians to join our team in September 2026. These specialist roles are dedicated to supporting both our Science and Design Technology (including food tech and art) Departments The successful candidates will specialise in one of these core subjects, joining a vibrant community of ambitious educators. We are looking for individuals who are not only committed to academic excellence within the classroom but are also eager to help grow the reach of these subjects through extra-curricular initiatives and innovative student engagement. Start Date : September 2026 Salary : 25 hrs per week, Hours : 38 weeks per year (term time only) Email : [email protected] Website : https://www.smithdonhigh.org.uk/ Purpose of the Roles To contribute to the achievement of Smithdon High School Science and Design Technology Department’s objectives by supporting the practical and technical aspects of the curriculum. This will involve preparing, providing and maintaining resources required for safe and secure practical activities carried out by staff and students. You will need to work on your own initiative, have good organisational skills and work well under pressure. You will work closely with both staff and students, supporting them with their work. As part of the team, you aid the teaching staff in the successful delivery of the teaching programmes. Design Technology, Food and Arts Technician (with some duties in science faculty) Responsibilities, but not limited to: • Maintain, within the competence of the technician, the equipment within the faculty including undertaking routine maintenance and minor repairs, recording such maintenance, and keeping a daily inspection log of the plant and equipment in the faculty. Report faults found in equipment to the Head of Department. • Provide timely preparation of materials and other resources for students’ work. • Be familiar with the use of ICT ( Google Suite) • Be familiar with or be prepared to learn how to run CAD/CAM equipment such as the laser or 3D printer. • Ensure the cleanliness of work areas across the department, including the safe storage of materials and the secure storage of students’ examination work. • Exercise stock control of materials, maintaining any necessary records. Advise on the need for replenishment and, if requested, write out orders for approval. Assist in the unloading and storage of incoming goods and the location and fixing of equipment and materials within the department. Science Technician (with some duties in Art/DT/Food faculty) Responsibilities, but not limited to: • Coordinate the use of practical resources and facilities and provide assistance and advice in meeting the practical needs of the science curriculum, including liaising with teaching staff and support staff outside the department. • To ensure the maintenance of a healthy & safe working environment through: • Actively contributing to the assessment, monitoring and review of both health & safety procedures and information resources; • Keeping up to date with current procedures and practices through continuing professional development; • The provision of technical advice and support on health & safety issues to teaching and trainee technical staff; • The safe treatment & disposal of used materials including hazardoussubstances and responding to actual or potential hazards; • The healthy & safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials.
