About   the   B rand Springer Nature’s Editorial Excellence team is a central expert team that supports Springer Nature with research integrity, journal editorial policy, and indexing. Within the Editorial Excellence team, the research integrity teams prevent and address concerns about research integrity and other breaches of publication ethics. The Editorial Excellence team ensures editorial and publishing best practice by producing training and ‘self-help guides’ for in-house staff and external editorial partners; contributes to system and workflow development; audits processes and technologies; provides clear and defensible action plans for complicated cases; leads   journals   editorial policy; and manages abstracting and indexing . About  the Role The Research Integrity Screening team play s   a critical role in the   pre-publication   screening of   submissions   to resolve all identified  integrity   concerns.  The   Team   Lead , Research Integrity Screening   is responsible for   the   training and development of multiple direct reports, managing the team ’ s workload and ensuring team efficiency,   monitoring   their   performance   and providing feedback, as well as delivering personal targets.   The successful candidate embraces   creativity and   innovation   and is open to   new ideas   that drive change . Roles   Responsibilities • Direct the work  of a blended team of internal and outsourced Integrity Screening Specialists and third-party vendors to drive research integrity manuscript assessments from   initial   flags of concern through a final evaluation and recommendation. • Build effective team  and   drive engagement  by fostering a culture of openness, transparency, collaboration, accountability, and inclusion within the team and across stakeholder groups.   Develop talent  within your team as well   as yourself   identifying   and pursuing personal development plans. • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Research Integrity Screening Specialist team, ensuring   goal alignment  with organizational   objectives , and consistent adherence to research integrity standards and policies, standard operating procedures provided by the Head of Research Integrity Screening, and service level agreements. • Organize the work of the Research Integrity Screening Specialist Team by setting up a triage  rota  and  allocating  specific tasks to individual team members by capacity, ensuring effective prioritization and   timely   delivery of outcomes from research integrity screening. • Coordinate and manage a high volume of manuscript assessments, supporting the Screening Team’s prioritization efforts,   leveraging   resourcefulness , sound prioritization, strong   judgement   and   decision quality   to balance competing demands and   manage complexity . • Act as the main point of contact for the Research Integrity Screening Specialist Team for the Head of Research Integrity Screening.   Exercise strong judgment in escalating complex or high-risk cases to your manager and when necessary to other   appropriate colleagues . • Drive administrative and reporting tasks to ensure that the Head of Research Integrity Screening has a clear picture of the volume and status of work as well as advanced notice of emerging issues,   providing leadership with clear visibility into workload volumes, operational performance, risks, and emerging issues to support informed decision-making. • Actively provide   contribute to   process optimization  by reviewing and providing feedback on SOPs ,   identifying   improvement opportunities, and recommending enhancements that increase efficiency, quality, and consistency. Contribute, directly or through team members, to other tasks and projects related to improving compliance with ethical policies/guidelines ( e.g.   policy and technology development, contributing to research projects, auditing journals). • Engage with and   balance stakeholder   priorities   other internal divisions within the SNRIG, PP&I, Publishing, Production, Product and Springer Nature in general to   identify , understand, and respond to business needs. • When requested by Head of Research Integrity Screening, represent the Research Integrity Screening Team in internal and external forums, promoting the team's contribution to Springer Nature's Editorial Excellence strategy and enhancing stakeholder engagement. Experience, skills and qualifications Essential • Educated to a   Masters   level in STEM or HSS ; • 2+   years experience   managing a team of highly skilled experts in editorial or publishing; • Knowledge/experience of the academic publishing industry, and scholarly publication processes,   systems   and tools; and specifically in manuscript screening and/or evaluation; • Familiarity with publication ethics and research integrity issues, and a passion for quality control; • Ability to   establish   effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders of any background,   seniority   or level of experience; • A high level   of computer literacy including knowledge of and experience with Office applications; • Excellent organizational, prioritization, analytical and time-management skills, with superior attention to detail; • Positive and proactive approach to problem-solving and task management; • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and team member development; • Strong communication   (written and oral) and English language skills; • Ability to work well under pressure. Desirable • Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification preferred Ideal candidates will have a background in STEM or HSS, Lean Methodology certification, and some   previous   editorial or publishing experience.
