System and Network Administrator

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and diligent junior system/network administrator ideally with virtualization skills, to be part of the team that manages CIBIO/InBIO’s internal IT infrastructure.
The candidate will play a key role in managing, maintaining and upgrading the software, hardware and network systems of the IT infrastructure. The main goal is to ensure that all the components of the IT infrastructure are running efficiently. We offer integration in an international working environment, technical training and career development.
Skills and competencies:
Essential:
• Previous working experience as system/network administrator (2+ years)
• Hands-on experience with diverse computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Windows, MacOS, Linux) and networks;
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills;
• Experience with Windows Server Network Infrastructure;
• Monitoring and System Management Tools;
• Detail oriented;
• Excellent time-management and planning skills;
• Good communication skills.
Desirable:
• OpenStack or other cloud layer implementation and administration;
• Knowledge of managing and maintaining DELL/EMC storages;
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux networking security;
• Experience in scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python);
• Automation and Orchestration Tools (Terraform, Ansible);
• Ability to repair and replace IT equipment as necessary.
Selection criteria:
In a first stage, candidates will be ranked based on:
• Professional experience (50%)
• The relevance of academic degree(s) and/or other professional training(s) (20%)
• Motivation letter (30%)
On a second stage the top-most ranked candidates (with more than 50% at the curricular evaluation) will be selected for an interview. The final rank will be calculated by the weighted average of the interview (40%) and the original ranked mark (60%). The interview will focus on the motivation of the candidate and his/her knowledge on the subject of this call. It may also include a technical discussion and/or technical questions. The jury will not choose any of the candidates if they all fail to demonstrate that they are a good fit to the position.
The selection panel will be formed by: Nuno Fonseca (Head of IT), Albano Beja-Pereira (IP) and António Múrias (PhD).
The work will be primarily conducted at CIBIO-InBIO, UP – Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos, Universidade do Porto, located at Campus de Vairão, Vila do Conde.
