About the Opportunity: As a Survey Technician with Interstates, you’ll play a key role in the layout and as-built collection of underground electrical utilities, embedded materials, overhead supports, and other essential site features. This position supports project design and construction activities with a mix of hands-on fieldwork and digital modeling using advanced equipment like Trimble and Leica, as well as BIM/CAD software. This role provides on‑site technical support.
Depending on your experience, responsibilities can include:
Operating Trimble RTS and GNSS survey equipment to set precise layouts for electrical components.
Performing 3D laser scanning with Leica scanners to capture site conditions.
Managing control points and ensuring accuracy of equipment and measurements.
Marking equipment locations using paint, stakes, and standard surveying methods.
Collaborating with project leaders and design staff to review and coordinate layout and deliverables.
Conducting as-built measurements, quality checks, and regular project updates.
Maintaining and caring for field surveying and scanning equipment.
Completing progress updates and maintaining documentation in BIM software (Revit/AutoCAD).
Using spreadsheets, documents, and databases for project recordkeeping.
Adhering to safety protocols and adapting to new/emerging technologies.
Senior-level technicians may also:
Lead and mentor other survey team members.
Plan and direct layout activities for efficient project execution.
Recommend improvements to surveying processes and standards.
Coordinate with external contractors and lead meetings to resolve setup or layout issues.
Provide technical support to field and design leadership.
Manage complex projects and advanced data tasks.
What We’re Looking For
Survey Technician:
High school diploma required.
1–2 years of survey fieldwork or BIM/CAD experience (Revit/AutoCAD) preferred.
Ability to read/interpret plans and construction documents.
Good with math, attention to detail, and accuracy.
Effective communicator and team player.
Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
Senior Survey Technician:
4+ years’ hands-on experience with Trimble survey equipment; advanced knowledge of surveying practices.
Experience mentoring or leading others is a plus.
Professional surveyor licensure/certification preferred (but not required).
Proven ability to manage complex surveying projects.
Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
