Job description The Helix School is seeking experienced, creative and dynamic Substitute Special Education Teacher. The Helix School is located in San Rafael. We serve autistic children in grades K - Transition. We offer our students a safe environment where they can build upon their strength while supporting them as they grow in their own awareness and knowledge, develop skills, and deepen their social skills. Our integrated curriculum is tailored to the student’s developmental level, sensory processing differences, and emotional-regulatory needs. At The Helix School, we emphasize our student’s capabilities and provide motivation-based, kinesthetic, and sensory-based functional, social-emotional and academic learning. • Responsibilities : • Working with head teacher, Counselor, Speech Therapist, Social-Emotional Learning Specialist and/or Occupational Therapist for 1:1 delivery of special education plans and daily instruction • Assisting the head teacher and others on the student’s team in preparing and presenting academic plan • Provide behavioral support to student when needed • Under direction of teachers and therapists, collect data as needed. Required • Required Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent   AND   one of the following: • Completion of   two years of college (48 semester units) ,   or • An   Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree or higher ,   or • Passing a   local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction • At least   2 years of experience working with children (special education strongly preferred) • Ability to work calmly and effectively in a dynamic classroom environment • Strong collaboration and communication skills • Comfort with hands-on, student-centered, and flexible teaching approaches The Helix School is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions on the basis of qualifications.
