Description
Substation Fitting Trainer
Manchester | Permanent | £50,000 – £63,654 (DOE)
Ready to come off the tools and pass your expertise on to the next generation?
We’re working with a leading global training provider that delivers safety, technical, and skills training across the electricity transmission sector. They’re known for hiring instructors who’ve genuinely lived the job — and they’re now looking for an experienced Substation Fitter or HV Technician ready for a new challenge.
You’ll bring real, hands-on experience of building and installing substations within the transmission sector, and in return you’ll be fully trained and supported to become an outstanding Trainer. This role suits candidates with a construction and installation background — not maintenance.
What You'll Be Doing
• Delivering training on substation construction and installation practices
• Supporting the delivery of technical certificates
• Assessing learners against national qualification standards (NVQs, Diplomas, EPA)
• Designing high-quality training materials based on real-world installation projects
• Delivering relevant compliance and safety training
• Supporting learners throughout their training and assessment journey
• Upholding high standards of health, safety and training delivery
You’ll be based primarily in Manchester, with some travel to client locations, including occasional overnight stays.
What We're Looking For
• A background in substation fitting within electricity transmission (construction/installation focus)
• Experience working on substation build projects, including installing primary plant and associated equipment
• Strong practical experience in mechanical fitting, steelwork and substation installation
• At least 5 years’ experience in transmission or large-scale HV infrastructure projects
• Excellent communication skills and a genuine desire to move into a training role
• A willingness to work towards Teaching and Assessor qualifications
If you’re an industry expert looking to trade the tools for a training career, we’d love to hear from you.
