Across the UK and beyond, governments are restricting dissent and criminalising activism. It is becoming harder for people to speak out, and students are on the frontline of that shift. Amnesty UK’s Student Action Network (STAN) brings students together to fight back, and student organising is at the heart of that work. We’re looking for Student Leaders to join the STAN Committee and help lead our student movement. Campuses are often where the chilling effect is felt most, but they’re also where collective action can make a real difference. This is a role focused on organising. You’ll work with student groups across the country, supporting them to take action, run campaigns, and build momentum around issues like Defend Dissent and wider human rights work. As part of the committee, you’ll take responsibility for a region of the UK. That means building relationships with student groups, helping them grow and developing leaders, and connecting their work into a wider national movement. You’ll also help shape national campaigns and moments where students come together to organise and take action. The aim of the STAN Committee is clear: to build a strong, visible student network that can respond to threats to human rights and create real pressure for change. About You You believe in the power of students coming together to create change, and you want to play a role in making that happen. You might already be involved in activism, or you might be looking for a way to take that next step. What’s important is you’re someone who takes initiative, works well with others, and is motivated to support and inspire those around you. You don’t need extensive experience in campaigning or organising. What matters most is your commitment to human rights, your willingness to learn, and your ability to bring energy and creativity to the work. You’re interested in the challenges facing the right to dissent, and you’re excited by the idea of helping to build a strong, student-led response. You want to develop your leadership skills, support others to take action, and be part of something collective, purposeful, and impactful.
