Description
Cribl is building telemetry infrastructure for the AI era, serving Fortune 100 enterprises. This Senior Software Engineer role focuses on designing and building Cribl's customer-facing metric store for high-volume observability data, handling distributed systems, time-series storage, query optimization, and SaaS infrastructure at scale. What You'll Do • Design and build customer-facing metric storage systems for high-volume telemetry data ingestion, retention, querying, and analysis • Write clean, maintainable, testable production code with focus on performance, observability, and operational resilience • Build scalable backend services and APIs for metric ingestion, storage, metadata management, and query execution • Develop data modeling and storage patterns for time-series data including high-cardinality dimensions, labels, fingerprints, rollups, and retention strategies • Collaborate across Product, Design, Engineering, and Operations to integrate metric storage capabilities into broader product experiences and improve query performance and system reliability • Coach less senior engineers, define engineering practices for the new product area, and participate in on-call service ownership What You Need • Strong experience building backend services in complex, large-scale distributed systems • Ability to write clean, maintainable, testable production code, preferably in Node.js and TypeScript • Experience building SaaS platforms, data platforms, observability systems, or high-volume cloud services • Experience working with time-series data, metrics, telemetry pipelines, query systems, or analytical databases • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, Linux, networking, and distributed systems fundamentals • Experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS or another major cloud provider • Experience designing secure, intuitive APIs built for long-term evolution • Ability to comply with U.S. government security requirements for FedRAMP-authorized systems (may require U.S. citizenship) Nice to Have • Experience with observability concepts such as metrics, labels, dimensions, cardinality, histograms, counters, gauges, and query languages such as PromQL • Experience with systems such as ClickHouse, Prometheus, Mimir, Thanos, VictoriaMetrics, OpenTelemetry, Kafka, Kinesis, S3, or similar technologies • Experience with storage systems, query performance, indexing strategies, partitioning, caching, or data lifecycle management • Experience using testing frameworks such as Mocha, Jest, Cypress or similar tools to automate regression checks • Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Bitbucket, Jenkins, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, or similar systems Base salary $165,000–$200,000 USD.
