Description
onX is a high-growth outdoor technology company building products to help people explore the outdoors confidently. This role is a Software Engineering Manager III leading a Growth Engineering team focused on optimizing in-app user experience and driving key business metrics through experimentation.
What You'll Do
• Lead and oversee design, prioritization, and implementation of experiments to improve key growth metrics while balancing competing priorities across teams and the organization
• Manage three or more direct reports, setting clear performance expectations, differentiating talent, addressing underperformance, and amplifying contributions to build a high-performing team
• Drive experiment velocity and quality at scale by defining structure, milestones, and success criteria, including for new initiatives without prior frameworks
• Lead cross-department projects by aligning groups around shared goals, progress, and outcomes, adjusting leadership approach based on context and ownership
• Monitor and report on growth-related KPIs, providing regular updates to senior leadership with recommendations connecting near-term actions to long-term departmental goals
• Analyze data to identify trends and patterns, using findings to drive continuous improvement and inform functional decisions
• Coach team members toward stronger innovation and promote test-and-iterate approaches within the team and across peer groups
What You Need
• At least five years of experience directly managing software engineers
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Economics, Business, or relevant experience
• Proven experience in a growth engineering or related role with a focus on mobile app growth and engagement
• Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software development or mobile app development
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a high-performing team with a track record of successful project delivery, talent development, and performance management
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions under imperfect information
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams
• Experience with A/B testing, experimentation, and data analysis tools
• Experience leading end-to-end projects with cross-functional scope
Nice to Have
• Understanding of Growth Engineering principles and how it differs from Product Engineering
• Experience working with data analysts to help with experiment analysis and decision-making
• Experience working with feature flag systems
• Experience working and collaborating with marketing teams
• Experience leading through leads or other managers, extending impact through others
• Knowledge of Linux and open-source technologies
$150,000–$188,000 base salary plus potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance, common share options with vesting schedule, comprehensive health benefits including no-monthly-cost medical plan, 5 or 13 weeks fully paid parental leave, 401k matching at 100% for first 3% and 50% from 3–5%, annual outdoor adventure funds, and flexible time away package
