Description
We are currently looking for a Software Engineer to join the
team in the Leiden Area .
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer with strong C++ expertise to join a team developing advanced automation software for mission-critical maritime and industrial applications. You will contribute to a next-generation integrated platform that controls and monitors complex onboard systems, while helping modernize the software architecture using the latest C++ standards. Working in an Agile environment with a strong focus on quality, CI/CD, and modern development practices, you'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative, high-reliability software solutions.

Main responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain software features for an integrated automation platform used in complex maritime and industrial environments.
• Contribute to the development of a modern software architecture based on C++20.
• Develop software for systems such as alarm monitoring, control, propulsion, power management, automated decision support, and dynamic positioning.
• Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary Agile team throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Ensure software quality through unit testing, code reviews, and modern CI/CD practices.
• Improve and optimize existing software by identifying opportunities for technical enhancements.
• Produce clear technical documentation and maintain high coding standards.
• Share knowledge with colleagues and support less experienced team members when needed.
Requirements
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline.
• Strong professional experience developing software in C++.
• Experience developing business-critical or mission-critical software systems is an advantage.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git and Azure DevOps.
• Familiarity with build automation tools, such as CMake.
• Good understanding of hardware interfaces, industrial communication protocols, and network architectures.
• Experience with unit testing frameworks.
• Experience with containerization technologies and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes is a plus.
• Knowledge of DDS (e.g. RTI DDS) and/or gRPC is a plus.
• Experience with Linux and C/C++ package management tools such as vcpkg is an advantage.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Dutch.
