Description
As a Software Developer II for AI Enablement on FME Flow, you will help explore what modern AI development tools and techniques make possible and put them to work in the FME Flow codebase — our enterprise platform for automations, scheduling, and web services. Your focus is on improving how we build Flow: adopting AI-assisted development workflows and reshaping the codebase — its structure, documentation, and test coverage — so engineers and AI tools can be far more effective. This is a strong growth role focused on the frontier of how software gets built. You will deliver reliable, maintainable changes with growing independence, troubleshoot and resolve issues persistently, and learn AI-enabled development hands-on. You will work closely with the Principal Software Developer for AI Enablement to learn best practices and help share and embed them within the Flow development team. We have an immediate opening and are excited to find the right candidate to join our team. ABOUT THE TEAM AI Enablement is a matrixed function at Safe Software, with engineers embedded across the FME product groups. The mission is to explore the frontier of AI-enabled software development and to transform how we build FME — reshaping our codebase, tooling, and engineering practices so we can take full advantage of what modern AI makes possible. This is not primarily a feature-development role. You will be embedded in the FME Flow team and work closely with our Principal Software Developer for AI Enablement to establish best practices, then champion and embed those practices within your development team. You'll collaborate day-to-day with developers, quality analysts, product managers, and UX designers. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING As a Software Developer II, AI Enablement (FME Flow), you will: - Explore and apply frontier AI-enabled development tools and techniques in your daily work, and help assess where they add real value. - Contribute to transforming the FME Flow codebase to support AI-assisted development — improving structure, documentation, and test coverage so AI tooling and engineers are effective. - Work closely with the Principal Software Developer for AI Enablement to learn best practices, and help share and embed them within the Flow development team. - Deliver reliable, maintainable code changes with growing independence, and troubleshoot and resolve issues with persistence. - Participate in sprint and project planning, helping to anticipate risks and dependencies for your work. - Collaborate across QA, UX, and Product, support more junior developers and interns, and contribute ideas that improve quality, workflow, and how the team uses AI. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES At Safe Software, we welcome diverse backgrounds and experiences. While not all candidates will have everything listed, the most successful candidates will bring many of the following: What We’re Looking For: - Roughly 2+ years of professional software development experience, with a track record of delivering reliably and with growing independence. - Proficiency in full-stack development with Java and TypeScript, and the ability to write maintainable, well-tested code - Comfort working within an existing codebase and improving its quality, structure, and test coverage. - Hands-on experience with — or strong curiosity about — AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar). - Clear communicator who collaborates effectively within a team and across disciplines. Nice to Have: - Proficiency in Python and other scripting languages - Experience refactoring code or improving automated test coverage and developer tooling. - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing. - Exposure to AI coding agents or other emerging AI development workflows. - Familiarity with Safe Software's FME Flow or comparable automation/server platforms. - Experience with REST APIs, webho
