Description
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener to join the horticultural team responsible for the ongoing maintenance and development of a beautiful private estate in Gloucestershire. Working alongside the Head Gardener and a small, dedicated team, the successful candidate will play an important hands-on role in maintaining the estate’s diverse gardens to an exceptionally high standard. This position is ideally suited to a knowledgeable and enthusiastic horticulturist with previous experience working within a private estate, historic garden or high-quality ornamental setting. The role offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative and supportive team, contributing to the continued enhancement of an outstanding private garden. The estate comprises an intensely planted 9-acre formal garden which has undergone significant developments, including a redesigned historic walled garden and wider landscape by Tom Stuart-Smith, together with the ongoing development of a productive kitchen garden and flower cutting areas. The gardens include beautifully maintained ornamental borders, extensive herbaceous planting, roses, shrubs, productive gardens, a large and varied glasshouse, woodland gardens and surrounding parkland. Reporting to the Head Gardener, the Skilled Gardener will undertake all aspects of practical horticulture including planting, pruning, weeding, border maintenance, lawn care, seasonal displays, vegetable and cut flower production, glasshouse work and the operation and routine maintenance of garden machinery. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues to ensure the gardens are presented to the highest possible standard throughout the year. Applications are sought from skilled and motivated gardeners with plant knowledge and practical horticultural ability. Candidates should possess experience in ornamental gardening, be physically fit, highly organised and capable of working both independently and as part of a professional team. Previous experience within a private estate or high-end garden environment would be advantageous. The successful applicant will have a genuine passion for horticulture, excellent attention to detail and a willingness to learn and develop their skills within a prestigious private estate. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work collaboratively with the wider estate team are essential.
