Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
At Going, data is our core product driver and a product in its own right. Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) is the team that runs it like an internal platform business: your product is the unified stream of flight data; your customers are our internal product and feature teams, and your ultimate end-users are millions of subscribers who rely on us for timely, hyper-relevant flight deals.
We're hiring a systems-thinking Senior Technical Product Manager to lead a cross-functional team of senior Data and Backend Engineers. You'll own the charter and roadmap for how Going acquires, pipelines, and engineers high-quality datasets that power Going's core products. This requires building the resilience and diversification that reduces our dependence on any single data source, and turning that data into a product every downstream team can build on without re-solving it themselves. You’ll report to the VP of Product.
IN THE SHORT TERM, YOU WILL
- Take ownership of the product data acquisition strategy and data processing roadmap; supporting the parallel build of a new system to replace the current
- Establish baseline measurement across our data funnel — coverage, pipeline health, and data quality — so future architecture and business decisions are based on value and cost
- Drive architecture that enables efficiency — a single-record architecture that's durable and observable
- Make data usable, not just available — You'll push toward a dynamic system that learns and adapts based on market trends and real consumer demand
- Serve internal customers so downstream teams have one trusted source to build against
IN THE LONG TERM, YOU WILL
- Build Going's long-term data acquisition strategy — diversified, cost-efficient, and resilient to any single vendor's disruption
- Turn our data caching and curation layer into a plug-and-play foundation that can onboard any future data source
- Make the data platform the compounding advantage behind Going's product — the thing every team builds on, not a shared dependency people work around
WHAT YOU KNOW
Required:
- You’re legally authorized to work in the United States and able to work US-hours.
- 5–8+ years of product management experience, with significant time owning data platform, data infrastructure, or data products
- Systems & Data Fluency: Comfort reading API specs, writing SQL, working with complex JSON/XML schemas, and discussing architecture (ETL/ELT pipelines, caching strategies, data lineage and provenance, metadata management) with senior engineers as peers
- Exposure to data quality, normalization, or golden dataset patterns
- Experience establishing measurement baselines before re-architecting or setting targets — you diagnose before you build
- Comfortable owning vendor/supplier relationships and contract negotiation, including cost-vs-coverage tradeoffs
- Track record navigating ambiguity while still shipping durable, well-governed systems
- Clear, async-first communicator — comfortable setting direction for a dedicated engineering team while working across technical and non-technical partners
Preferred:
- Travel/aviation data expertise: GDS feeds, OAG/Cirium APIs, fare buckets and cabin mapping, IATA/ICAO codes
- Prior experience designing internal data products or operating within a Data Mesh architecture.
- Prior experience designing internal data products or operating in a data mesh model
- Experience with event-driven architectures, low-latency edge caching, and scaling systems for real-time demand spikes.
