Description
Project Management: • Lead technical coordination between Alva, EPC, and site owner; define scopes, interfaces, and deliverables and run design and progress reviews. • Oversee technical performance of the EPC; review key engineering deliverables and manage RFIs, design changes, and other technical issues. • Work with supply chain to plan procurement of major equipment and materials; ensure vendor compliance and support FATs and inspections as needed. • Help translate engineering into construction-ready work packages and execution plans; provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup. • Identify and manage technical and regulatory risks; ensure compliance with applicable codes/standards and champion safety-by-design. • Help define internal roles, support hiring and onboarding, and mentor engineers; improve Alva’s standards, tools, and processes for project delivery. Engineering Development: • Plan and manage engineering maturity from FEL-1 through FEL-3 (or 30-60-90%), defining deliverables, quality criteria, and gate reviews. • Coordinate multi-discipline design (mechanical, piping, electrical/I&C, civil/structural, BOP) to deliver an integrated, constructible, code-compliant plant. • Draft and review engineering standards, technical specifications, and contract scopes for EPC and major equipment. Project Development: • Support early-stage development, including technology configuration, process concept selection, and trade studies on performance, cost, schedule, and risk. • Work with commercial and finance teams to turn technical options into techno-economic cases and support internal investment decisions. Contribute to site evaluation, including footprint, access, constructability, interconnection, and permitting; ensure findings are reflected in layout and basis of design. • Lead preparation of RFPs for EPC and key vendors; lead or contribute to technical bid evaluations and recommendations for award. • Lead or contribute to technical bid evaluations and recommendations for award; support negotiations on EPC and key supply agreements. Qualifications • 6–10+ years leading engineering and/or construction on large power or process-industry projects (e.g., steam turbine or combined-cycle plants) with significant EPC or Owner’s Engineer interaction. • Experience in both project development and execution, including concept development, site evaluation, and support for EPC / major equipment contracting. • Strong technical understanding of steam turbine power plants or closely related thermal facilities, including major equipment and balance-of-plant systems. • Hands-on experience with stage-gated engineering (FEL-1/2/3 or 30-60-90%) and with construction engineering, procurement, field execution, and QA/QC. • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME, IEEE, ACI); experience with nuclear or decarbonization technologies is a plus. • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Civil, or related engineering discipline. • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills; willing to travel up to ~25% to project sites and suppliers.
