Description
Leading organization within the energy sector, is seeking a Senior PHP Backend Engineer to join an enterprise environment responsible for designing and delivering robust backend services and APIs. The role operates under a strict architecture-first model, where backend frameworks such as Symfony or Laravel are used as implementation tools, while all systems must conform to a standardized enterprise architecture, domain model structure, and engineering governance framework. The focus is on system design consistency, scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability rather than framework preference. Core Engineering Principle All backend development adheres to a framework-agnostic enterprise architecture standard where: • Business logic remains independent of framework implementation • Symfony or Laravel are used primarily as delivery layers • Domain modeling, services, and application logic follow unified engineering patterns • Consistency and maintainability take precedence over framework-specific conventions Key Responsibilities • Design and develop backend services and APIs using Symfony or Laravel under a unified architecture standard • Implement business logic following Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles, including bounded contexts, services, and entities • Build and maintain asynchronous workflows using queues, events, and message-driven architectures • Design and implement webhook-based and event-driven integrations • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within a standardized engineering delivery model • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including architecture, development, testing, deployment, and support • Ensure system performance, reliability, scalability, and security • Contribute to architectural governance, engineering standards, and code quality initiatives Enterprise Architecture Expectations All engineers are expected to: • Separate domain logic from framework implementation • Follow standardized service and layer boundaries: Domain Layer (business logic) Application Layer (use cases) Infrastructure Layer (framework, ORM, and external systems) • Avoid framework-specific business logic leakage • Maintain consistent API design standards across services • Ensure testability independent of framework constraints Requirements • Minimum 4 years of professional backend PHP development experience • Strong PHP 8.2+ experience • Proven experience with Symfony or Laravel in production environments (minimum two projects) • Ability to work within a strict enterprise architecture standard independent of framework choice • Strong understanding of: Domain-Driven Design (DDD) Clean Architecture / Layered Architecture SOLID principles Object-oriented design patterns • Experience with: Symfony (DI Container, Messenger, Doctrine ORM) OR Laravel (Service Container, Queues, Eloquent ORM) • Strong MySQL expertise, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs • Strong experience with asynchronous processing, queues, workers, and event systems • Experience with PHPUnit or Pest and a disciplined testing approach (unit and integration testing) • Experience with Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines • Experience working with Docker-based development environments • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field Nice to Have • Cloud experience (GCP preferred, AWS or Azure also considered) • Static analysis and quality enforcement tools such as PHPStan, Rector, Pint, or CS Fixer • Enterprise integrations (SAP S/4HANA, Salesforce, etc.) • Payment systems integration (Stripe or similar) • OAuth2 / SSO implementations • Exposure to frontend technologies such as Vue, React, or Angular • Experience in regulated or mission-critical environments such as energy
