Description
SE3 Labs is building autonomous systems and Spatial AI platforms, particularly for high-performance UAVs that operate in GPS-denied and degraded environments. As Senior Perception Engineer, you will own the real-time perception and localization stack, developing visual-inertial odometry, SLAM, sensor fusion, and state-estimation algorithms that enable autonomous systems to understand their position and environment in challenging field conditions.
What You'll Do
• Design and deploy robust visual-inertial odometry and state-estimation pipelines for UAVs and robotics systems operating in GPS-challenged, dynamic outdoor environments with difficult sensor conditions
• Build sensor fusion systems to integrate cameras, IMUs, magnetometers, barometers and other onboard sensors into reliable pose, orientation and spatial context estimates
• Develop SLAM, loop closure, re-localization and map-based navigation capabilities for maintaining spatial understanding across missions and degraded sensor conditions
• Own intrinsic, extrinsic and temporal calibration workflows, diagnosing drift, latency, frame drops, sync issues and sensor degradation
• Optimize perception pipelines for resource-constrained onboard compute including Nvidia Jetson platforms and edge CPUs/GPUs
• Build replayable log pipelines, evaluation datasets and automated regression tests to measure localization accuracy and robustness
• Analyze real mission logs and field data to reproduce failures, isolate root causes and improve system reliability beyond ideal conditions
• Mentor engineers, review architecture and code, and define the long-term perception roadmap
What You Need
• M.Sc., Ph.D. or equivalent practical background in Robotics, Computer Vision, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering or related technical field
• Several years of hands-on experience building perception, SLAM, VIO, localization, sensor-fusion or state-estimation systems for real-world robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones or adjacent domains
• Strong foundations in 3D geometry, linear algebra, probability, estimation theory, optimization, filtering and real-time robotics systems
• Strong proficiency in C++, Python or Rust with experience writing production-quality software for Linux-based robotic systems
• Practical experience with EKF, factor graphs, nonlinear least squares, bundle adjustment, visual odometry, inertial navigation, calibration and multi-sensor fusion
• Experience working with real sensors and understanding perception failures from timing, calibration, vibration, lighting and integration issues
• Fluent English; structured, fast-moving and mission-driven approach to engineering
Nice to Have
• Experience deploying perception systems on Nvidia Jetson, writing CUDA kernels or optimizing deep neural networks for edge deployment
• Experience with LWIR thermal cameras, rolling shutter effects, visual-inertial calibration, multi-camera rigs or fisheye/wide-angle lenses
• Experience with GNSS-denied navigation in UAV context, terrain-relative navigation or map-based localization
• Experience building evaluation datasets, replay systems, perception observability and automated regression pipelines
• Publications or open-source contributions in SLAM, VIO, 3D computer vision or robotics
• German language ability
