Senior Investment Officer - Origination
We are seeking an experienced (Senior) Investment Officer – Origination to manage a loan portfolio, bring new investees, and foster client relationships with financial institutions across the LATAM region.
The position requires 8-12 months stint on the Analytics team.
Key tasks
• Grow the portfolio of investees in the LATAM region, including deal structuring, conducting due diligence visits, negotiating, and drafting memorandum recommendations from the origination perspective.
• Execute thorough preliminary analyses to evaluate the risk of existing and potential investees, perform necessary due diligence, and develop appropriate loan structures to mitigate identified risks.
• Work with colleagues from the Analytics team to conduct in-person due diligence across various LATAM markets.
• Apply and contribute to the origination strategy for the portfolio of the region, based on the annual targets of risk, return, and impact. This includes:
• Support in building a data base of potential new investees, based on bringing your own portfolio, conferences participation, as well as research from different markets. This includes FIs and non-FIs in countries where BOF already has a presence and new countries. For new countries, this includes researching the criteria that our Funds must comply with in order to do business.
• Proactively support expanding the strategic partners base for syndicated and co-lending opportunities.
• Contribute to developing the annual pipeline of new investees based on regional business plan targets and objectives.
• Ensure a high retention level of existing investees from your portfolio, based on strong effort to maintain solid relationships and originate new debt transactions that meet their financing needs.
• Quarterly monitoring changes in the risk of the markets where we invest to timely adjust the origination strategy.
• Share knowledge with other team members about effective deal structuring, writing high quality memo recommendations, fit for each Fund, due diligence, negotiation techniques, investment tools, core system, among others.
• Provide support with board meetings requests, factsheets, and other corporate presentations.
• Actively support the development of business processes and tools, (i.e. work split, challenge meetings, job descriptions, among others).
• Represent the BOF at national and international conferences in coordination with the line manager.
• Along the other team members, collaborate with the annual goal-setting for the office.
• Promote the best working environment by understanding and role-modelling the vision, mission, and values of BOF and the office.
• Comply with the BOF’s Credit Procedures and business practices.
• Other responsibilities could be added or changed by the line manager to align with the changing needs of the business or the region.
Required skills
• 10+ years of relevant experience structuring loans and assessing Financial Institutions.
• Experience working in an impact investment manager, credit rating agency, the banking industry, or in deposit and non-deposit taking financial entities catering to SMEs and micro entrepreneurs with loans and tailor-made products like leasing and factoring;
• 5+ years of relevant working experience in the Region;
• Strong experience in performing financial due diligences and/or risk assessments on financial institutions;
• Experience with assessing debt investments and conducting detailed credit analysis;
• Experience with assessing social impact and ESG assessments.
• Excellent problem solving and presentation skills required to effectively manage internal and external communication;
• Excellent verbal and writing communication in English and Spanish is required, additional language(s) practiced in the region are a plus;
• Master’s degree in finance, business administration, economics, or related field;
• Willingness to live and work in Lima, Peru and to undertake regular travels in the region .
