Description
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and commercially sound cost estimates to support tender submissions, budget planning, and project feasibility across modular construction projects. This role works closely with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to assess scope, obtain pricing, identify cost risks, and contribute to well-informed commercial decisions throughout the pre-construction phase. Prepare detailed project estimates using templates and company standards. Analyse drawings, specifications, and scope documents to identify cost components and pricing requirements. Identify scope gaps, risk items, exclusions, and ensure appropriate allowances are included. Document clarifications and exclusions to support tender transparency. Monitor estimate-to-budget alignment and assist with variance tracking. Obtain competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors. Assist in issuing purchase orders and procurement documentation within delegation limits. Support inventory planning and cost control initiatives. Collaborate with procurement to identify cost-saving opportunities. Liaise with designers and consultants to clarify specifications and project scope. Ensure structural, joinery, and modular design requirements are accurately captured in estimates. Resolve material specification queries to support accurate costing. Assist in validating constructability and feasibility considerations. Assist with preparation of tender submissions and supporting documentation. Review subcontractor quotations and assess value-for-money outcomes. Contribute to pricing strategy aligned with margin and risk parameters. Support ECI and concept-stage pricing where required. Maintain accurate estimating records, supporting documents, and pricing files. Other position-level duties as they arise. Requirements 5+ years’ experience in estimating, cost planning, or construction-related roles. Extensive experience in handling projects within Australia Strong understanding of NCC Building Classes. Degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or Engineering. Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or similar certification is advantageous. Experience in modular or residential/commercial construction environments is advantageous. Experience in commercial construction fit out environment highly advantageous Proficiency in estimating software such as CostX. Strong understanding of cost planning, budgeting, and value engineering principles. Strong communication and organisational skills. Ability to collaborate across sales, design, procurement, and production teams. Ability to build effective working relationships with suppliers and subcontractors. Ability to clearly communicate risks, assumptions, and pricing rationale. Knowledge of contractual, regulatory, and industry standards. Familiarity with Environmental, Quality, and WHS Management Systems. Strong IT skills and understanding of tendering and contract processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving capability. Ability to identify scope risks and cost exposure early. Ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives. High attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
