Dounreay Hours 37 Type Full Time Salary £46,267 to £79,434 Senior Engineer C&I Job Posted: 23rd July 2026 Applications Close: 4th August 2026 A vacancy has arisen within our Fuel Cycle Area (FCA) Engineering team for a Senior Engineer Control & Instrumentation (C&I). This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to take a leading role in delivering high quality engineering solutions that support Dounreay’s decommissioning mission. You will provide engineering oversight, governance and strategic direction, ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly and to the highest professional standards while influencing the future development of engineering capability across the organisation. What you’ll be doing In this role, you will be responsible for shaping and implementing engineering strategies, safety case delivery plans and technical governance arrangements that support safe and effective project delivery. Working closely with regulators, stakeholders, contractors and multidisciplinary teams, you will provide expert technical guidance, approve engineering solutions and maintain Design Authority arrangements to ensure robust decision-making and regulatory compliance. You will also play a key role in developing engineering capability, managing resources, supporting project approvals and guiding engineering teams to deliver fit-for-purpose design and safety solutions aligned with site objectives. Develop and deliver engineering, safety case and technical governance strategies across a portfolio of projects. Provide technical assurance and approval of engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with regulatory, legislative and quality requirements. Build and maintain effective relationships with regulators, stakeholders, contractors and internal teams to support successful project outcomes. Manage engineering resources, technical capability and line management responsibilities to ensure the effective delivery of engineering objectives. What you’ll bring You will be degree qualified in Engineering (or equivalent) and possess comprehensive C&I engineering experience, gained within a complex technical environment. You will have a strong track record of supporting projects throughout the full lifecycle, from design and manufacture through to installation and commissioning, ideally within the nuclear sector or another highly regulated industry As a confident communicator you will be able to influence stakeholders, build strong working relationships and provide clear technical direction to multidisciplinary teams Combined with excellent organisational skills and technical expertise, you will demonstrate an unwavering commitment to safety, compliance and engineering excellence
