Description
A Senior Embedded Linux Engineer position at an IoT company based in Munich. You will own the operating system foundation and platform layer of IoT devices, building and evolving a Yocto-based embedded Linux distribution for ARM devices, while also developing the Python application layer that runs on top. The role spans from kernel and driver integration to application-level debugging and feature development. What You'll Do • Design, build, and continuously evolve a Yocto-based Linux distribution for ARM-powered IoT devices with limited compute resources • Develop Python-based software that brings hardware capabilities to life and improves product reliability and performance • Work across the full stack—kernel and driver integration, OS adaptation, and application development—connecting hardware, operating system, and product features • Implement device reliability features including secure systems, OTA updates, networking, inter-process communication, scheduling, and device monitoring • Analyze and resolve complex issues across the platform including kernel, drivers, networking, memory management, and application software using debugging tools such as GDB, Valgrind, and JTAG What You Need • Several years of experience developing Embedded Linux systems and confidence working with Linux internals, GNU tools, and Bash • Proven experience building, customizing, and maintaining Linux images using Yocto • Strong programming skills in at least one systems language such as C, C++, Rust, Go, or Java • Experience developing Python applications or strong motivation to make Python your primary development language • Solid understanding of Linux internals, bootloaders, systemd, drivers, kernel concepts, networking, and Docker • Hands-on experience with low-level debugging tools such as GDB, tcpdump, Valgrind, UART, and JTAG • Fluent English at C1 level • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent practical experience Nice to Have • Experience operating large-scale IoT fleets • Knowledge of industrial hardware, cameras, AI accelerators, modems, or network devices • Experience with computer vision, edge AI, or machine learning • Familiarity with MQTT and Protocol Buffers (ProtoBuf) Flexible and hybrid work model with workation options.
