Founded in 1961, WWF is a global conservation organisation operating in more than 100 countries, working with communities, companies and governments to protect wildlife, conserve habitats and advance sustainable solutions grounded in science. The Senior Director, Corporate Engagement, Forests leads WWF-US’s corporate engagement strategy for forests, driving action to eliminate deforestation and forest degradation across priority forest-linked supply chains, and mobilising investments that advance forest protection, restoration and sustainable management. The role oversees US implementation of WWF’s Forests Forward corporate engagement programme, stewards high-impact partnerships, channels corporate finance to priority global forest landscapes, and aligns WWF’s corporate and policy approaches for forests with WWF-US and global forest goals. It leads a team focused on forging strategic partnerships to deliver landscape-scale outcomes for climate, nature and people, while managing initiative budgets and fundraising and coordinating across WWF global network offices. Key responsibilities include leading the corporate forest engagement strategy to deliver measurable progress on avoiding deforestation and conserving priority forest landscapes; overseeing a portfolio of US corporate partnerships across priority sectors and geographies; stewarding high-profile partnerships and ensuring alignment with target-setting frameworks, disclosure platforms, forest certification standards and emerging regulatory expectations; advising companies on deforestation and conversion-free sourcing strategies, target-setting, nature-based solutions investments, and progress monitoring; leading and managing a team of professionals; engaging with financial institutions and investors in collaboration with WWF-US’s Nature Finance Initiative; developing sustainable funding and cost-recovery models including corporate contributions, grants and blended finance; representing the WWF-US Forests team on multi-stakeholder coalitions and external forums; and ensuring engagements uphold WWF’s social safeguards and support the rights, knowledge and leadership of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Requirements include advanced academic training (a graduate degree or equivalent experience) and 12 or more years in corporate sustainability, forestry, or international natural resource commodities. Also sought are deep knowledge of global forest and trade issues, corporate sustainability trends, deforestation and conversion-free sourcing initiatives, forest certification standards, climate and nature target-setting and disclosure frameworks (such as SBTi FLAG, SBTN, TNFD), relevant policies (such as EUDR, CSRD, CSDDD), and relevant funding mechanisms; proven experience stewarding high-ambition initiatives and managing complex corporate partnerships; demonstrated leadership in matrixed global organisations; a track record of leading high-performing teams across geographies, cultures and multilingual contexts; and executive-level communication skills. The role requires the ability to travel domestically and internationally and high proficiency in English, with additional fluency in Spanish, French, Portuguese or Mandarin a strong asset. If selected, the candidate must be able to relocate to the DC area, and applicants must be legally authorised to work in the US; this position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship and is eligible for domestic relocation.
