Senior Costs Manager
The Role
We are working with a leading legal client who is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Costs Manager to join their established Costs team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified Costs Lawyer with strong commercial disputes experience to take on a senior position, providing strategic costs advice, supporting fee-earning teams, and contributing to the continued development of the costs function.
The successful candidate will play a key role in advising on costs and litigation funding matters, managing costs processes, supporting internal stakeholders, and helping to drive best practice across the department.
Key Responsibilities:
• Providing specialist costs support and advice to one or more fee-earning teams.
• Advising on costs, litigation funding, and related issues where appropriate.
• Supporting the preparation and review of retainer and funding documentation.
• Preparing internal and external costs budgets and estimates.
• Undertaking active costs management and monitoring budgets using costs management systems.
• Supporting reporting, analysis, and strategic advice across the business.
• Drafting formal Bills of Costs, Statements of Costs, and assisting with the detailed assessment process.
• Advising on inter partes costs and solicitor-own-client costs matters.
• Supporting the development and performance of junior members of the Costs team.
• Creating and maintaining costs guidance documents, templates, and best practice resources.
• Delivering internal training and supporting knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Raising the profile of the Costs team internally and externally.
• Representing the organisation at seminars, conferences, training events, and industry forums.
• Contributing to thought leadership content, technical updates, and industry publications.
• Supporting the ongoing development and implementation of the department’s business strategy.
• Working collaboratively with Costs Lawyers, Costs Draftsmen, and fee earners.
The successful candidate will have:
• Previous experience working as a qualified Costs Lawyer.
• Strong experience handling commercial disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and complex/group litigation matters.
• Excellent technical knowledge of costs and litigation funding.
• A commercially focused and solutions-driven approach.
• Strong organisation skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels.
• Strong attention to detail and sound judgement.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a wider team.
• A proactive approach with a passion for delivering high-quality costs support.
Salary: Competitive 100k-120k, dependent on experience.
Working pattern: Permanent, full-time, hybrid working available.
