Transit Mechanic Join our team and keep our community moving! We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Transit Mechanic to perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and inspections on our fleet of buses and vehicles. This is a vital role in ensuring the safety and reliability of our public transportation system. Schedule: Shifts may vary within shop hours: Monday-Friday 6:00 AM-10:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM-10:00 PM. About the Role: As a Transit Mechanic, you will be responsible for: • Conducting thorough inspections of buses and vehicles. • Removing, repairing, and replacing parts and components using tools and equipment safely and professionally. • Performing preventative maintenance to keep our fleet in top condition. • Maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe shop area. • Reading, writing, and performing basic mathematical calculations. • Working varied hours to support scheduled operations. • Operating vehicles safely and efficiently. Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities is acceptable. A typical path to acquiring these skills includes: • Graduation from a technical school or equivalent. • Five (5) years of verifiable automotive mechanical experience. • ASE or Dealer Certification. • Strong understanding of mechanical principles for diesel and gas engines, fluid systems, electrical systems, powertrains, chassis, and preventative maintenance inspections. • Experience with brakes (air/hydraulic), heating, air conditioning, hydraulic systems, and transmissions. • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class B CDL with Passenger endorsement, issued by the Arkansas Department of Motor Vehicles, or a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). ORT offers free in-house CDL training. • Must meet all Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards, including criminal background requirements for safety-sensitive positions.
