Overview of the Role The Senior Accountant at VBP will take a lead role in overseeing the preparation and accuracy of financial statements, compliance with regulatory requirements, and provide guidance to junior accounting staff. This role requires strong technical accounting expertise coupled with excellent communication skills to support the finance team and drive financial accuracy and integrity within the organization. Main duties include: Prepare, review and finalize annual financial statements ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Lead and mentor junior accountants and accounting assistants providing training and support. Oversee tax compliance matters including preparation and review of tax returns, instalment activity statements (IAS), and business activity statements (BAS). Coordinate with auditors during annual audits and assist in audit preparations. Ensure accuracy of ledger reconciliations including bank, payroll, and other balance sheet accounts. Prepare management reports and analysis providing insights on financial performance. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best accounting practices. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in accounting regulations and standards. Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective financial controls and procedures are in place. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Minimum of 5 years experience as an Accountant with progressive responsibility, preferably in Australian accounting environment. Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards, taxation, and compliance requirements. Proficient in accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks. Excellent leadership and team management skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills. Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Professional accounting qualification (CPA, CA, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
