Description
About the Role
We’re looking for a meticulous, proactive Senior Accountant with experience in the consumer goods space who’s excited about where accounting is headed. In this role, you'll support multiple early-stage companies by leading month-end close, mentoring junior team members, and improving accounting processes—all while working with a team that’s exploring how AI and automation can unlock better insights, faster workflows, and more strategic finance.
If you’re energized by clean books and future-forward tools, we’d love to meet you.
What You’ll Do
• Own month-end close and prepare GAAP financial statements
• Build and maintain working papers and variance analyses
• Oversee payroll and compliance filings (GST/HST/PST)
• Post journal entries, process AR/AP, and handle ad-hoc accounting tasks
• Coach and mentor Jr Accountants to uphold quality and timeliness
• Get hands-on when needed (especially for lean client accounts)
• Manage multiple stakeholders across diverse industries, balancing expectations and delivering high-quality outputs
• Bring an operational mindset to accounting—identify opportunities to streamline, automate, or add value for clients and for TheFinanceStack
• Continuously learn by solving a wide range of accounting challenges across industries, contributing to your growth as a strategic finance partner
• Prepare board and management reporting, translating financials into clear narratives, variance (flux) analysis, and actionable KPI insights
• Build and maintain cash flow models and forecasts, providing visibility into runway, liquidity, and strategic decision-making
What You Bring
• CPA designation (or actively working toward one)
• Strong grasp of full-cycle accounting and working papers
• Experience running payroll (Rippling, Payworks, Wagepoint, etc.)
• Proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, etc.)
• Familiarity with Canadian tax compliance (US knowledge a plus)
• Experience with cloud-based accounting tools (Xero & QBO)
• A curiosity for emerging tech in finance—including automation, AI tools, and how they can improve accuracy and speed
Why You’ll Love It Here
• Flexible, remote-first work culture
• Tech-forward environment exploring automation and AI in finance
• Autonomy with support when you need it
• High-impact role with room to grow into Controller and beyond
• Collaborative, respectful, and process-driven team
We’re on a mission to give every company the finance and accounting capabilities of an “at scale” operation. As a remote-first firm, we combine deep expertise with tech-forward processes to support a range of innovative companies in SaaS, services, and D2C across North America .
