Job Purpose To safely and efficiently operate a semi-trailer truck (for long-distance transportation of construction materials and abnormal loads across Tanzania, ensuring timely delivery while complying with road safety regulations and company standards. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities • Operate and drive a semi-trailer truck (Volvo horse cab) for long-distance routes across Tanzania. • Transport construction materials using tipper trailers and abnormal/oversized equipment using flatbed trailers. • Ensure proper loading, securing, and offloading of cargo to prevent damage or accidents. • Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and trailers. • Adhere to all road safety regulations, traffic laws, and company policies. • Plan routes effectively, considering road conditions, permits, and delivery schedules. • Handle required documentation including delivery notes, permits for abnormal loads, and fuel records. • Report any mechanical issues, accidents, or delays promptly to management. • Maintain cleanliness and basic maintenance of the assigned vehicle. • Coordinate with site teams, clients, and logistics staff for smooth delivery operations. Knowledge and Experience • Valid Tanzanian Driving License (Class E or equivalent for heavy commercial vehicles). • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience driving semi-trailers or heavy-duty trucks. • Proven experience in handling flatbed and tipper trailers. • Must have a clean criminal record (certificate of good conduct may be required). • Experience transporting abnormal/oversized loads is an added advantage. • Basic mechanical knowledge of trucks (preferably Volvo trucks). Skills and Competencies • Strong knowledge of Tanzanian road networks and regulations. • Ability to drive long distances and work flexible hours. • Good cargo handling and load securing skills. • High level of responsibility, reliability, and safety awareness. • Good communication and reporting skills. • Problem-solving skills and ability to handle emergencies on the road.
