Job Description: ABO U T THE POSITION The Department of   Surgery and Specialty Medicine   at the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine ( IllinoisCOM )   is   seeking   a dynamic and experienced physician educator and leader   to serve as faculty in Psychiatry. Th is   part -time   (0.60 FTE)   position offers the opportunity to   champion   the integration of mental   health   throughout   the medical education curriculum .   Th is   posi tion   is open   to   candidates   at the   rank of   Ass istant   Professor ,   Ass ociate   Professor ,   or Full Profes sor .    Academic   rank to   be   determine d   by The   Chicago Sc hool and   IllinoisCOM's   acad emic rank pol icy. The   successful clinician-educator   will lead curriculum development across both pre-clinical and clinical p h ases,   buildin g   the   pre-clinical   Behavioral Scienc es curricu lum and directing the   Psychiatry core   clerkship rotation .   Addit ional   respon s ibilities   include faculty recruitment and development,   establishing   clini cal partners hips, and fostering research initiatives and community engage ment. We   seek a dedicated educator and innovative leader with deep   expertise   in psych iatry and   understanding of the interconnectedness of mental and physical health. The successful candidate will c reate a colla borative, student-focused environment that aligns with   IllinoisCOM's   mission to train   physicians who deliver integrated, patient-centered care addressing both physical and mental health needs. The University is building Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine, or   IllinoisCOM ,   anticipated   to open for its first class of students in summer 2026 with a Mission to train exceptional physicians to   leverage   the interconnection of physical and mental health to provide compassionate, patient-centered care of the highest quality. PRINCIP AL   DUTIES Leadership & Administration • Provide visionary leadership for   the integration of mental health-centered   curriculum   within   the   IllinoisCOM • Lead curriculum development and assessment for the   Psychiatry   clinical rotation • Assist   curriculum development and assessment in preclinical courses as needed. • Assist   in r ecruit ment , mentor ing , and develop ment of   faculty members within the department • Maintain   partnerships with hospitals, clinics, and community organizations to support clinical training and research opportunities • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies Teaching, Curriculum Development, & Student Success • Oversee the development and delivery of an innovative,   holistic   psychiatric   curriculum • Teach   medical students using evidence-based instructional methods, including case-based and small-group learning • Support student coaching, mentoring, and professional development in clinical and academic settings • Collaborate with other faculty and clinical educators to integrate   mental health-centering   content across the curriculum Service • Represent the College in professional organizations and events • Assist   where needed with student recruitment and community outreach efforts • Participate in college and University committees • Support student and faculty participation in community outreach and service-learning programs • Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical education • Engag e   in clinical practice   ( strongly encouraged ) Research & Scholarly Activity • Promote a culture of research and scholarship • Support faculty and student research • Seek external funding opportunities and partnerships to enhance research initiatives • Ensure ethical and regulatory compliance for research activities BASIC QUALIFICATIONS • DO   or MD   degree with board certification   in related specialty • At least five (5) years of experience in medical education, residency training, or faculty leadership • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and student mentorship. • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills • Commitment to collaborative, interprofessional education and the integration of osteopathic principles in training IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS • Experience as a department chair, program director, or senior faculty leader in an accredited medical school or residency program • Strong background in educational innovation, simulation-based training, and competency-based assessment • Established record of research and scholarly activity in   clinical practice   or medical education • Demonstrated commitment to health equity, diversity, and inclusion in clinical practice and medical education POSITION DETAILS • Salary range:   $ 105 ,000   - $ 165 ,000 ,   commensurate   with experience and academic rank • Location:   Chicago, IL • Reports to:   Chair of   Surgery and Specialty Medicin e • Employment Type:   Part-time • Candidates must   be authorized to   work in the United States Compensation & Benefits This opportunity is budgeted at $105,000 - 165,000 base compensation.
