As we move from a dynamic start-up into an ambitious scale-up phase, we're looking for a customer-oriented, technically strong Sales Engineer for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to help accelerate our commercial growth. In this role, you act as the technical counterpart to customers and partners within the sales team — translating complex requirements into commercially attractive, technically feasible BESS solutions, and helping position PHENOGY's sodium-ion battery technology in a competitive, fast-moving market.
You'll work closely with Product, Engineering, R&D, and Operations to ensure customer needs, technical feasibility, and commercial value are aligned — from first consultation through to proposal stage..
Your Tasks & Responsibilities
Customer & Technical Sales
Be the technical expert as part of the sales team throughout the sales cycle for PHENOGY's BESS solutions
Analyze customer requirements and translate them into technically and commercially viable solution concepts
Present technical solutions and communicate their value to customers and partners
Solution Engineering & Proposal Development
Design customized BESS solutions and support the preparation of technical and commercial proposals
Conduct load profile analyses, business case assessments, and ROI calculations
Support tender, RFP, and customer qualification processes
Internal Coordination & Market Feedback
Collaborate closely with Engineering, R&D, Product Management, and Operations
Ensure proposed solutions are feasible, scalable, and aligned with internal capabilities
Provide customer and market insights to support continuous product improvement
Must have’s
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
At least 3 years of experience in technical sales, solution engineering, sales engineering, application engineering, project engineering or a similar customer-facing technical role
3+ years of experience in technical/solution sales, application engineering, or a similar customer-facing technical role — ideally in battery storage, power electronics, or industrial energy systems
Strong commercial mindset: able to connect technical features to customer value, business cases, and buying decisions
Fluent in English and German
Nice-to-have’s
Direct experience with BESS, sodium-ion, lithium-ion, or grid-connected storage applications
Experience selling to industrial, commercial, utility, or grid-operator customers
Familiarity with PV/solar, EV charging infrastructure, UPS, switchgear, or grid infrastructure
Experience preparing technical proposals, RFP responses, or feasibility/ROI assessments
Comfort operating in an early-stage, scale-up, or high-growth environment
Existing network in renewable energy, e
