Western Road Distribution Location: Kamloops, BC (or as assigned) Reports To: President Employment Type: Full-Time Salary: $80,000 plus commission About Western Road Distribution Western Road Distribution is a leading provider of specialty road maintenance solutions across Western Canada. With over 25 years of experience, we deliver high-performance products and application services for dust control, anti-icing, de-icing, asphalt preservation, and road surface improvement. Our customers include municipalities, industrial operations, forestry companies, contractors, commercial property operators, and infrastructure partners throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Yukon. Position Summary The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, growth, and operational performance of Western Road Distribution. This role oversees sales, field operations, logistics, safety, financial performance, customer relationships, and strategic planning across multiple service lines. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with experience in road maintenance, construction services, industrial operations, infrastructure, transportation, or related industries. They will possess strong business acumen, operational expertise, and the ability to lead teams while driving revenue growth and customer satisfaction. This positions starts at $80,000 yearly + commission. Key Responsibilities Business Leadership & Strategy • Lead the overall business operations and execution of company objectives. • Develop and implement strategic growth plans across Western Canada. • Identify new market opportunities, partnerships, and service offerings. • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and profitability. • Collaborate with the President to establish annual business goals, budgets, and performance targets. Operations Management • Oversee all field operations, product application services, equipment utilization, and project execution. • Ensure efficient scheduling of crews, equipment, and product deliveries. • Monitor operational performance to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. • Maintain high standards of quality control and customer service across all service lines. • Optimize fleet, inventory, and logistics management processes. Sales & Customer Development • Support and lead business development activities across municipal, industrial, forestry, commercial, and contractor markets. • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, and industry stakeholders. • Review major proposals, contracts, and service agreements. • Work closely with sales teams to achieve revenue targets and expand market presence. • Represent the company at industry events, customer meetings, and trade associations. Financial Management • Manage company budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting. • Monitor profitability, margins, labor costs, fleet utilization, and operational expenses. • Analyze KPIs and operational metrics to drive business performance. • Ensure effective cost controls while maintaining service quality and customer satisfaction. Team Leadership • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing employees. • Provide leadership and coaching to managers, supervisors, sales personnel, and operational teams. • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement. • Conduct regular performance reviews and succession planning activities. Safety & Compliance • Champion a strong safety culture across all company operations. • Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements, transportation regulations, environmental standards, and company policies. • Lead incident investigations and corrective action programs. • Maintain operational readiness and risk management processes. Qualifications Required • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in construction, road maintenance, infrastructure services, transportation, industrial services, or related industries. • 3+ years of senior management or General Manager experience. • Strong understanding of operational management, fleet management, logistics, and field service operations. • Proven track record of managing budgets, profitability, and business growth. • Experience leading sales, customer relationships, and contract negotiations. • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Preferred • Experience within road maintenance, dust control, de-icing, aggregate, asphalt, civil construction, or municipal services sectors. • Knowledge of heavy equipment and specialty application services. • Post-secondary education in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Operations Management, or a related field. • Familiarity with Western Canadian industrial and municipal markets.
