Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Safety Specialist manages all safety compliance programs, policies, investigations, and training programs for a set of stores and facilities. Actively builds and maintains a working relationship with store and facility leadership and responsible stakeholders to provide support and guidance when needed for all safety needs. Stays abreast of regulatory requirements with OSHA and EPA and adjusts policies when required. Responds to emergency situations and participates on the Safety Team on-call schedules. Overall focus of providing a safe environment for our team This role requires 4 days in office/stores for up to 6 months to learn the role and then will be able to shift to 3 days a week in office/stores and 2 days remote (this can vary based on need). This role is located in St Louis, Missouri. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES • Manages the Store Safety Accountability and Acknowledgement Program for all store locations: • Facilitates Store Class 1 calls after an accident with a cross functional team. • Creates and executes weekly safety checks for all store locations. • Reviews and responds to weekly safety check responses. • Builds and maintains monthly roadmaps. • Manages Accountability data to utilize in reports. • Perform job safety hazard analyses for all job tasks within the stores. • Build policies and/or procedures based on results from job safety analysis, new equipment, root cause results, or compliance regulations. • Investigates store and facility teammate safety events with the purpose of finding root causes and identifying solutions to mitigate or eliminate a risk. • Execute regulatory compliance programs within the stores and facilities including: • Hearing Conservation • Lockout/Tagout • Hazard Communication • Fall Protection • Powered Industrial Trucks • Hazardous Waste • Assist in building and executing safety training within the stores and facilities by: • Find outside resources for safety training or work with internal teams to build new or update safety training. Communicate requirements to management • Run reports for compliance and participation in all safety training • Manage the safety components of the Fleet Program for Schnuck Markets. This includes safety training, utilizing the SmartDrive program, and investigating any fleet accident. • Manage emergency preparedness programs such as: • Automatic External Defibrillator program that includes weekly checks, annual training, and replacement of supplies • Safety drills with all facilities locations • Emergency communication at the facility level that includes the Crisis Management Flipchart, Emergency Action Plan, and Evacuation Maps. • Respond to day-to-day store and facility requests in regards to safety. • Lead OSHA-involved events such as response to complaints, reporting requirements due to an accident, and visits within all facilities or stores. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred • Minimum Years of Experience:  1 to 3 years of manufacturing, warehouse, retail grocery, and/or safety and health experience. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge • Solid understanding of and comfort in use of Google Suite programs • Maintain driver’s license • Understanding of OSHA regulations • 30 Hour OSHA Certification Skills & Abilities • Must have the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally • Relationship building • Walking/standing for extended periods of time • Capable of complex Excel/Sheets use and functions at an advanced level FORMAL POLICY SETTING Makes recommendations to management PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT Walking • ½ Day Standing • ½ Day Lifting • 25 to 50 lbs Travel • 26-50% Work Environment • Walking retail grocery stores on a routine basis • On-call schedule that will require nights and weekends for a week at a time • Subject to work outside of normal business hours and call-backs The above statements describe the job’s essential responsibilities and requirements.  They are not an exhaustive list of the duties that may be assigned to job incumbents.
