About the Role We’re looking for a skilled Ruby on Rails Engineer to help us build and scale modern web applications and backend services. This is a full-stack role, with a strong emphasis on good software engineering principles, clean design, and long-term maintainability. You’ll work across web applications, APIs, and backend services, collaborating closely with product and engineering peers to deliver reliable, high-quality software. Responsibilities • Design, build, and maintain Ruby on Rails applications • Contribute across the stack, including database design, backend services and APIs, and front-end integration • Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code • Participate in design discussions and technical decision-making • Improve system reliability, performance, and scalability over time • Collaborate with product managers and other engineers to translate requirements into robust solutions • Review code and contribute to shared engineering standards and best practices • Work with containerised services deployed to Kubernetes and AWS based services Requirements • 3+ years of commercial experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails • Experience of working with AI engineering tools (e.g. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) and workflows in a commercial, team based environment • Experience of delivering software using modern development workflows in CI/CD environment • Experience building and maintaining web applications and APIs, including security and performance considerations • Experience of working with databases, including data modelling, schema design and query optimisation, preferably with MongoDB and PostgreSQL • Excellent written a verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in a remote/distributed environment. Experience of working within healthcare is not required, however experience of working with health assessments  and medical testing would be advantageous.
