RECERTIFICATION PROGRAM OCEAN TO RIVER ROLE OVERVIEW Transition from ocean to river navigation and develop the skills needed to become a Second Officer on the Rhine, Danube, or in France. The Recertification Program: Ocean to River • Obtain a Captain license, including VHF certification. • Prepare for stretch exams from Amsterdam to Cologne. • Train on Viking Longships through onboard and simulator sessions. • Gain hands-on experience for 7-9 months. Upon completion, you'll be offered a contract as a Second Officer. Viking covers all training and exam costs, adhering to EU regulations. WHAT YOU WILL DO ON BOARD • Assist the First Officer with ship, crew, guest, and environmental safety • Continuously learn and train to enhance sailing skills • Mentor sailors and trainees, ensuring compliance with guidelines • Uphold cleanliness and order onboard • Secure safe mooring and gangway installation • Ensure that our Viking longships meets guest expectations • Inspect mooring lines daily • Ensure PPE compliance • Report damage/issues to the Captain • Ensure operational readiness of the rescue boat • Share vital information with the Captain, First Officer, and Engineer WHY JOIN VIKING On board our ship • Social security benefits in accordance to Swiss or French contracts including pension, child allowance, occupational fund, unemployment insurance • Viking Academy training programs • Structured paths to grow onboard and into corporate roles • Referral Program bonus • Seniority bonus • License stretch bonus • Training Bonus • Bonus calculated on the number of days worked on board with guests About you On board Requirements: • 500 days sailing experience on ocean vessels • Previous maneuvering experience on various vessels • Preferably experienced in a 3rd Officer position or higher • Genuine interest in guest communication • Team player who is initiative driven Essential Qualifications: • Spoken Languages: English • Visa Requirements: Must be eligible to work in the EU or hold a valid work permit.
