We are seeking a motivated student to join a project exploring the chemistry behind fungal potential to combat Striga, a parasitic plant devastating sorghum and rice crops. This project is part of Promise II, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, at NIOO (Netherlands Institute of Ecology), in Wageningen. This project offers hands-on experience in: • Cultivating fungi and extracting bioactive metabolites • Conducting untargeted metabolomics analysis using advanced mass spectrometry techniques • Fractionating fungal extracts and evaluating their inhibitory effects on Striga seed germination in vitro Gain valuable skills in cutting-edge analytical chemistry, bioassays, and sustainable crop protection strategies!
