Research fellowship (BII) (m/f) -Biopolis 2024-43-TelSUMORE -NEW DEADLINE Job description: Job: Research fellowship (BII) Reference: BIOPOLIS 2024-43 Main research field: Plant Molecular Biology NEW DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS We offer a Research Fellowship to an MSc student (Reference BIOPOLIS 2024-43) on the scope of the project TelSUMORE – Exploring SUMO protease involvement in telomere-dependent gene regulation in plants , reference FCT 2022.04722.PTDC, at CIBIO/Associação BIOPOLIS, to support the experimental work in the laboratory. Main research field: Plant Molecular Biology Admission requirements: Candidates with an BSc degree in Biology, preferably with previous experience in gene cloning and expression. Preference will be given to candidates with: Experience working in a molecular biology lab; Experience with nucleic acid extractions; Experience in plant growth and developmental characterization; Fluency in English; Good communication skills. The candidate should be able to work well within a team and possess troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. The candidate must present a CV compatible with the work plan. Work plan: Within the scope of the work, the following tasks will be developed: Clone and express genes in heterologous systems; Grow different plant lines for developmental characterization; Support in implementing an RNA-Seq experiment; Support reporting activities and dissemination of results; Attending project meetings. Workplace: The work will primarily be done at the CIBIO-InBIO, Vairão, Vila do Conde. Working periods in partner Research Institutions may take place. Duration of the fellowship: 4.5 months Monthly stipend: Monthly stipend is €601,12 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf). Payment will be made by bank transfer each month. The successful candidate will also be entitled to personal accident insurance. Expect starting date: 15 th October 2024 Selection criteria: Assessment will be made in accordance with admission requirements (see above) and will be based on: a) previous experience with molecular biology methodologies and their relevance in relation to the work plan (70%); b) the overall quality of the curriculum vitae (30%). The jury may not award the fellowship if the quality of the candidates is inferior to what is intended. In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best-positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. This will be aimed at obtaining clarifications about the curricular elements and additional information, as well as evaluating the attitude profile and motivation of the candidate. In case of an interview stage, the final score of each jury member is obtained by the following assessment: 80% scientific and curricular career evaluation and 20% interview. Jury composition: The Jury will be chaired by Dr. Pedro Humberto Castro (BIOPOLIS-CIBIO), having as effective members Dr. Herlander Azevedo (BIOPOLIS-CIBIO) and Dr. Ana Campilho (BIOPOLIS-CIBIO). Área Científica: Biologia Molecular de Plantas Requisitos de Admissão: Candidatos com uma licenciatura em Biologia, de preferência com experiência anterior em clonagem e expressão genética. Será dada preferência a candidatos com: • Experiência de trabalho num laboratório de biologia molecular; • Experiência em extração de ácidos nucleicos; • Experiência em crescimento e caracterização do desenvolvimento de plantas; • Fluência em inglês; • Boa capacidade de comunicação. O candidato deve ser capaz de trabalhar bem em equipa e possuir capacidades de resolução de problemas. O candidato deve apresentar um CV compatível com o plano de trabalho. Plano de Trabalhos: No âmbito do trabalho, serão desenvolvidas as seguintes tarefas: • Clonagem e expressão de genes em sistemas heterólogos; • Crescimento de diferentes linhagens de plantas para caracterização do desenvolvimento; • Apoio na implementação de uma experiência de RNA-Seq; • Apoio às actividades de elaboração de relatórios e divulgação de resultados; • Participação em reuniões do projecto. O pagamento será efectuado por transferência bancária todos os meses. O candidato seleccionado terá ainda direito a um seguro de acidentes pessoais. Data de início: 15 Outubro de 2024 Critérios de Seleção: A avaliação será efectuada de acordo com os requisitos de admissão (ver acima) e basear-se-á na: a) relevância da experiência anterior em biologia molecular e adequação ao plano de trabalhos (70%); b) qualidade geral do curriculum vitae (30%). O júri poderá não atribuir a bolsa se a qualidade dos candidatos for inferior à pretendida. No caso dos candidatos admitidos cuja avaliação não difira em mais de 10% da obtida pelo candidato melhor posicionado, o júri procederá a uma entrevista com esses candidatos. Esta terá como objectivo a obtenção de esclarecimentos sobre os elementos curriculares e informações adicionais, bem como a avaliação do perfil de atitude e motivação do candidato. A pontuação final de cada membro do júri é obtida através da seguinte avaliação: 80% avaliação do percurso científico e curricular e 20% entrevista.
