Research Fellowship (BI) (m/f) -Biopolis 2025-04 - REDUCE Job description: Posição: Research Fellowship (BI) Referência: BIOPOLIS 2025-04 Área Científica: Ecology and Remote Sensing We offer a Research Fellowship to a Master (Reference biopolis 2025-04) within the scope of the project "REDUCE: Reducing bycatch of threatened megafauna in the East Central Atlantic", reference 101135583-Horizon-CL6-BIODIV-01, funded by Horizon Europe funds, at CIBIO/BIOPOLIS Association. The tasks will involve tagging marine predators with bio-loggers and subsequent analysis of the obtained data. These data will be integrated with environmental data obtained from climatological products, to study the effects of fishing capture on their behaviour. Admission Requirements: Holders of a master’s degree in Biology and related fields enrolled at a non-degree program at a university. Preference will be given to candidates with: Experience in fieldwork involving handling fish; Experience in tagging with various types of transmitters (e.g., acoustic, satellite, accelerometers, etc.); Experience in processing and analyzing telemetry data; Programming knowledge (e.g., R) and use of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS); Fluency in English; Good communication skills. The candidate should be able to work well within a team and possess troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. The candidate must present a CV compatible with the work plan. Work Plan: Within the scope of the work, the following tasks will be developed: Tagging marine predators with bio-loggers; Analyzing spatial movement and behavior data obtained by telemetry; Integrating environmental data with the data collected from the animal; Analyzing fishing data and identifying risk areas in the context of climate change; Supporting the activities of report writing and dissemination of results. Workplace: The work will primarily be done at the CIBIO-Biopolis, Vairão, Vila do Conde. Working periods in partner Research Institutions may take place. Duration of the fellowship: of renewal. Monthly stipend: Monthly stipend is € 1 259,64 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal ( https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ). Payment will be made by bank transfer every month. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance. Expected starting date: 1st february 2025. Selection criteria: Assessment will be made in accordance with admission requirements (see above) and will be based on: a) the relevance of previous experience in fish tagging and telemetry data analysis using programming and GIS software (70%); b) the quality of the curriculum vitae (20%); c) previous experience in similar research projects (10%). The jury may not award the fellowship if the quality of the candidates is lower than desired. In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best-positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. This will be aimed at obtaining clarifications about the curricular elements and additional information, as well as evaluating the attitude profile and motivation of the candidate. The final score of each jury member is obtained by the following assessment: 80% scientific and curricular career evaluation and 20% interview. Jury composition: The Jury will be chaired by Dr. Nuno Queiroz (CIBIO), with Dra. Marisa Vedor (CIBIO) and Dr. Fernando Lima (CIBIO) as effective members. As tarefas envolverão a marcação de predadores marinhos com bio-loggers e subsequente análise dos dados obtidos. Estes dados serão integrados com dados ambientais obtidos em produtos climatológicos, com vista ao estudo dos efeitos de captura de pesca no seu comportamento. Requisitos de Admissão: M estres em Biologia e áreas semelhantes inscritos num curso não conferente de grau numa instituição de ensino superior . Será dada preferência a candidatos com: • Experiência em trabalho de campo envolvendo manuseamento de peixes; • Experiência em marcação com vários tipos de transmissores (ex., acústica, satélite, acelerómetros, etc.); • Experiência em processamento e análise de dados de telemetria; • Conhecimentos de programação (ex., R) e de utilização de software de GIS (ex., ArcGIS, QGIS); • Fluência em inglês. • Boa capacidade de comunicação. O candidato deve ser capaz de trabalhar bem em equipa e possuir capacidades de resolução de problemas. O candidato deve apresentar um CV compatível com o plano de trabalho. Plano de Trabalhos: No âmbito do trabalho, serão desenvolvidas as seguintes tarefas: • Marcação de predadores marinhos com bio-loggers ; • Análise de dados de movimento espacial e de comportamento obtidos por telemetria; • Integração de dados ambientais com os dados recolhidos no animal; • Análise de dados de pesca e identificação de zonas de risco num contexto de alterações climáticas; • Apoio às actividades de elaboração de relatórios e divulgação de resultados. Legislação: Lei nº.40/2004, de 18 de agosto (Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação) alterada e republicada pelo Decreto-Lei n.º 123/2019, de 28 de agosto; Regulamento de Bolsas de Local: O trabalho será efectuado principalmente no CIBIO-InBIO, Vairão, Vila do Conde. Poderão ser efectuados períodos de trabalho em instituições de investigação parceiras. Duração: 8 meses, com possibilidade de renovação. Subsídio de manutenção mensal: A bolsa mensal é de €1 259,64 de acordo com as bolsas efectuado por transferência bancária todos os meses. O júri poderá não atribuir a bolsa se a qualidade dos candidatos for inferior à pretendida. No caso dos candidatos admitidos cuja avaliação não difira em mais de 10% da obtida pelo candidato melhor posicionado, o júri procederá a uma entrevista com esses candidatos. Esta terá como objectivo a obtenção de esclarecimentos sobre os elementos curriculares e informações adicionais, bem como a avaliação do perfil de atitude e motivação do candidato.
