A Research Fellowship (BI) (Reference BIOPOLIS 2022-65) on the scope of the project BIOPOLIS - Enhancing the transference of scientific and technological knowledge through a new Centre of Excellence in Environmental Biology, Ecosystems and AgroBiodiversity, reference NORTE-01-0246-FEDER-000063, funded by Norte Portugal Regional Operational Programme (NORTE2020), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), at CIBIO/Associação BIOPOLIS to develop work on the thematic "Douro Valleys Parks - Identification of the sense of connection within the natural and cultural values of the landscape”, with Professor Claudia Fernandes as scientific coordinator.
Main research field: Landscape Architecture (or related scientific fields).
Admission requirements: Candidates with a Master's degree in scientific fields compatible with the function, preferably with basic training in Landscape Architecture or related fields, attending a doctoral program in the area of Biological Sciences or Landscape Architecture and with a solid experience in Landscape Ecology. Candidates must have: i) experience of field work; ii) ability to undertake work in the field of spatial planning, landscape ecology, and the management and assessment of landscape quality; iii) ability to produce expedient thematic cartography; iv) proficiency in ArcGIS or equivalent software, Autocad, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Excel, and R programming, v) experience in analyzing data and preparation of reports and manuscripts of scientific publications; (vi) fluency in English (spoken and written); and (vii) good teamwork and communication skills. The candidate must present a scientific curriculum compatible with the work plan.
Working plan: The work consists in supporting the development of the study "ADV - Tua and Sabor - Côa axis. Identification of the sense of connection within the natural and cultural values of the landscape". The grant holder will have to gather and produce information on the visual and sensorial quality of the landscape, biodiversity and heritage values of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro (ADV), Vale do Tua Regional Natural Park (PNRVT) and Vale do Côa Archaeological Park (PAVC). The successful candidate is expected to network with other researchers and to collaborate in writing technical reports and scientific publications.

Work Place: The work will primarily be carried out at the CIBIO-InBIO pole of Vairão, Vila do Conde and may involve fieldwork in Douro Valleys Parks and other country regions.
Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have duration of 8 months, potentially renewable for additional periods and should start in 1 st November.
Monthly stipend: Monthly stipend is €1.144,64 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/Tabela_Valores_SMM_LOE_2021.pdf). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.
Selection criteria: Assessment will be made in accordance with admission requirements (see above) and will be based on: a) the relevance of previous experience (50%); b) the quality of the curriculum vitae (30%); c) in the analysis of a motivation letter (20%).
The jury may not award the fellowship if the quality of the candidates is inferior to that intended.
Jury composition:
The Jury will be chaired by Professor Claudia Fernandes (Associação BIOPOLIS – CIBIO/InBIO), having as effective members Dr. Vanessa Mata (Associação BIOPOLIS – CIBIO/InBIO) and Dr. Sónia Ferreira (Associação BIOPOLIS – CIBIO/InBIO) and substitute member Dr. Pedro Beja (Associação BIOPOLIS – CIBIO/InBIO).
