Reference: BIOPOLIS 2023-10 Job description: Research fellowship (BI) Reference: BIOPOLIS 2023-10 Main research field: Biological Sciences A Research Fellowship (BI) (Reference BIOPOLIS 2023-10) within the scope of the project "TelSUMORE – Exploring SUMO protease involvement in telomere-dependent gene regulation in plants” 2022.04722.PTDC, funded by a Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. /MCTES via national funds (PIDDAC) at Associação BIOPOLIS to develop work to explore the involvement of the SUMO peptide in telomere regulation in plants with Pedro Humberto Castro as scientific coordinator. Main research field: Biological Sciences (or related scientific fields). Admission requirements: Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related fields, attending a master program in the area of Biological Sciences and the following experience: i) demonstrated experience in Molecular Biology techniques including gene cloning and mutant genotyping; ii) experience in Arabidopsis thaliana plant manipulation and developmental characterization; iii) plant transient and stable transformation via Agrobacterium; iv) willingness for short stays abroad to carry out experiments; v) fluency in English (spoken and written); and vi) good teamwork and communication skills. The candidate must present a scientific curriculum compatible with the work plan. Working plan: Within the scope of the work plan, the candidate will perform tasks on the research plan rely on i) checking telomere integrity in plants; ii) checking fluorescent-fusion proteins co-localization with telomere and telomere-associated proteins; iii) identification of putative desumoylation targets by proteomics approach; iv) establishing homozygous Arabidopsis T-DNA mutant lines and respective developmental characterization; v) transcriptomics analysis of plant mutants by RNA-Seq and validation via qPCR; vi) preparation of manuscripts to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals in the field. Work Place: The work will be carried out at the CIBIO-InBIO pole of Vairão, Vila do Conde. Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship is for a period of 12 months, eventually renewable until the end of the project, starting on March 1st. Monthly stipend: Monthly stipend is €875,98 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://former.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/Tabela_de_Valores_SMM_2022.pdf). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance. Selection criteria: Assessment will be made in accordance with admission requirements (see above) and will be based on: a) the relevance of previous experience (65%); b) the quality of the curriculum vitae (25%); c) the analysis of a motivation letter (10%). The jury may not award the fellowship if the quality of the candidates is inferior to that intended. Jury composition: The Jury will be chaired by Dr. Pedro Humberto Castro (CIBIO), having as effective members Dr. Herlander Azevedo (CIBIO) and Dr. Ana Campilho (CIBIO) and substitute member Dr. Mariana Sottomayor (CIBIO).
