The Renewable Energy Community and Conservation (RECC) Scientist is a part-time position (40% FTE) providing technical and scientific support to The Nature Conservancy’s Wisconsin Chapter Clean Energy Transition team for 11 months, pending funding availability. Projects the RECC Scientist may undertake include community outreach and engagement on renewable energy siting, research on dual-use renewable energy opportunities such as agrivoltaics, and the development of partnerships with renewable energy organisations in Wisconsin and the Midwest. Through conversations with internal and external colleagues across the climate, regenerative agriculture, and land management sectors, the Wisconsin Business Unit can generate knowledge in agrivoltaics, climate equity, and the public perception of renewable energy. Responsibilities include developing community engagement, outreach, and educational materials on renewable energy siting, building local and regional capacity to engage in the siting, permitting, and planning of renewable energy projects that maximise community benefits and minimise impacts to conservation priorities, representing TNC Wisconsin at regular meetings of the R-STEP RESET Collaborative, and actively participating in the Wisconsin Chapter’s Science & Strategy Team and the Midwest Division’s Clean Energy Steering Team. Candidates should bring a master’s degree in renewable energy, conservation, agriculture, environmental science, or a science-related field and two years of experience, or an equivalent combination, along with experience leading cross-functional teams, public speaking and outreach, writing and editing, advanced use of Excel, Outlook, and Word, and coordinating multiple projects and priorities while working independently. Desired qualifications include a doctoral degree in a related field, experience with climate mitigation solutions or the renewable energy sector, and experience working with rural or marginalised communities. The position requires a valid driver’s licence and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program, with employment contingent on completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement that may include a motor vehicle record review. Actual pay within the range depends on location, qualifications, skills, and experience.
